Austin Riley

Pretty exciting stuff for a 18 year old... cut down on the K's and you have a scary prospect if he can keep it up as he progresses

I looked at his HS numbers and his strike out total was excellent throughout. He walked 88 times compared to like 56 Ks. So it would appear he might not be the K guy some think. Give him time to adjust to the wooden bat and I think he may be fine.

It's even more than than. Take away the first 23 at-bats for the guy and he's hitting around .330. Teens don't traditionally do that in Rookie ball. He's up to what .255 with a 0-20 start? He's going to be fantastic if he can sustain anywhere close to the power numbers.

Riley's a stud. Needs to move to Danville soon.

Yeah. This guy would have been a once in a generation player at Mississippi State. I believe Riley will be playing his first full season at Rome next year. He is a better power prospect than Braxton Davidson at this point.

Rome will be loaded next year.

Where do you think those GCL prospects ranks right now in our system?

IMO, if Kolby Allard is already top 10 in the system, the Austin Riley is just on the outside of the top 10 looking to make a jump into the top 10 once he gets to Rome in 2016.

I think Juan Yepez is right there behind Riley.

MLB.com put Allard 5th, Soroka 13th, Herbert 15 or 16, and Riley 18. They didn't rank Yepez or Acuna.

I think they're right on for Allard and Soroka, too high on Herbert until we see more, and too low on Riley. I'd put Soroka and Riley about even. And I would probably have Yepez top 15-20, Acuna around 20, and I'd wait on Herbert until we see more.

Austin is 2 for 4 with a triple and a RBI in his Danville debut. This kid is smoking hot right now.

IMO, he starts 2016 at Rome and gets a promotion to Carolina before the year is out. Possibility of him being in AA by 2017. Could he be the 3B in Atlanta in 2018?

Move Olivera to LF at that point. It's great that so many teenagers are doing well in thensystem. And we haven't even seen Allard yet

Or we could actually move him to 2B and Albies to SS and trade Simba as another option (particularly if Yepez or Acuna continue to do really well), it would give us some great flexibility if he can be a good player at 3B for us.
