Bally Sports Heading For Bankruptcy

If I remember correctly it was during negotiations between Liberty and TW. The real blame imo is with MLB. Not long after rubber stamping our deal they vetoed a 2 billion dollar deal for the Dodgers. I wish we could get some comment from them as to why they vetod the Dodgers deal but not ours.

Looks accurate from some quick searching. Liberty bought the team in 2007. Twenty year TV contract expires in 2007.

Interesting comments today by Manfred.

The long and short of it being that because Diamond is going to default on their interest loan payment, all MLB teams will opt out of their contracts with Diamond. By doing so, MLB itself will be taking over the broad casts in a combination of cable and streaming. On MLB Radio on XM, they were saying that this is going to be the quickest way to get to MLB owing all TV rights and it being subscription based with no black outs.

Not sure I like the sound of “subscription based”……

If I can pay for mlb.tv with no blackouts it would be a major win for everyone. They already have the app for virtually every device. They just need to setup separate tiers. One for your team only and one for all teams.

Anti-bankruptcy clauses typically aren't enforceable.

MLB might be preparing to step in in event that Bally decides to repudiate the contracts, which seems very unlikely.

Curious what would happen to those of us who still pay for cable if the RSN's die.

Will the Braves just takeover the channel(s) (Fox Sports South/Southeast now Ballys)? Or will the games just be simulcasted on there then be pitch black on the channel the other 20 hours a day.

I seem to recall a long while back, when the team was still on TBS, I want to say before the Turner South era, that there was syndication of select games around the region. I remember WJTC in Mobile doing that here. I could possibly see that happening
