Bally Sports Latest

Agreed. I don’t want to subscribe to a bunch of streaming services because the game is a different place every night.

Thing is - I think a lot of MLB fans - certainly myself included - would rather have our same broadcasting crew do all - if not almost all- of our games. It’s all part of the product - assuming it’s well done. So I’d hate to see the Braves being streamed on a bunch of different platforms each week….. not to mention I doubt I’d shell out the money for all of those different channels.

I agree. I'm just saying these platforms should be showing multiple MLB games per week. There are 2,430 MLB games every year. If Amazon just streamed 5% of those games, that would essentially be averaging a little more than 1 game every 2 days of the regular season. Most people already have Amazon anyways. And ESPN already pulls around 10 braves per year or so. I don't think you would really notice it if 90% of Braves games were on the same network, and the other 10% split between ESPN and a streaming platform like Amazon.

teams could still have regional broadcast groups, that are replaced when they are on a different platform. But 80% or whatever would be broadcast by the regional cast that is more familiar with the team. MLB would control those groups and then sell the rights to the other platforms (fox, hulu, amazon, etc) who would use whoever they wanted. All TV money would then go into a pool that would be divided by the teams.

The sport needs something to bring the teams closer in competitive balance. You can't have teams getting billions in TV revenue and not have some sort of salary cap.

This just now being reported that Diamond Sports Group/Bally is planning on only carrying the Braves and cutting ties with the other 11 teams. As soon as I find out more details, I’m passing it along.

It seems a little backwards that a judge has the power to let them out of all the contracts that are terrible for Bally, and keep the only one that’s terrible for the other party. As usual, the rich idiots are bailed out.

That’s what I was thinking yesterday. This whole thing is just strange. Bally apparently would be open to negotiating with the other teams at a lower cost. But do the other clubs want to do that? I can’t imagine they have a lot of trust with Diamond/Bally. And if you’re the Braves, do you want to be the only one on this sinking ship? I’m aware of the contract through 2027, but if I’m the Braves, I’m looking to see if there’s an out.

MLB already has a lot of distrust with Bally and yesterday’s news didn’t make it any better. MLB’s attorneys didn’t see this coming and they don’t seem happy. I have a feeling there’s going to be another twist or two before it’s all said and done.

The US has very debtor friendly bankruptcy law. Some of the most debtor friendly in the world. The ability to repudiate unfavorable contracts and reaffirm favorable ones is a big part of that. It's used by large corporations and poor individuals alike.
