BA's Top 10 Prospects

Castro is a puzzler. Hasn't bloomed the way many thought he would, buy he's still only 25. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a larger market that needs a middle IF (Yankees?).

Quite an interesting Projected 2019 Lineup...

C- Bethancourt
1B- Freeman
2B- Peterson
SS- Simba
3B- Olivera
LF- Riley
CF- Smith
RF- Davidson

SP- Miller
SP- Teheran
SP- Wisler
SP- Minor
SP- Sims

CL- Simmons

They don't do any actual projections here beyond taking the guys currently on the team and projecting most of them to stick with the team, with a few prospects sprinkled in. There's pretty much no way Minor is still around at that point, and I'd be surprised if Peterson or Bethancourt is in our lineup then, and I think they would probably agree. It's just a very basic way of seeing where prospects might play and how they could potentially fit into the roster.

My guess on a 2019 roster is something like this:

C - someone not currently in the system, Herbert could potentially be knocking on the door by then
1B - Freeman
2B - Albies
SS - Simmons
3B - Olivera, could be Ruiz or even Riley if they progress and Olivera falls off some
LF - Davidson or Riley
CF - Mallex or someone not currently in the system
RF - someone not currently in the system

SP - Miller
SP - Wisler
SP - Sims
SP - Allard
SP - Toussaint

It's an interesting list. Set Olivera aside for a second, as he's more an artifact of the somewhat quirky way BA handles veteran imports, and there are a few takeaways:

1. Allard's already the best prospect in the system after six (admittedly dominant) innings. That's ambitious.

2. The 2015 draft certainly looks solid, based on very, very, very early returns

3. Toussaint at 4 and Fried at 6 is obviously a reflection of the talent both those guys possess, but having one guy who hasn't pitched in about a year and a half and another who's painfully young and has gotten his head beaten in so far that high is a cause for some wariness.

4. How is "Mallex" pronounced? Like the bad guy in Knights of the Old Republic, or like "Alex" with an "M" at the front?

1. Ambitious perhaps, but probably about right. That's where his talent should slot him.

2. Yes, that draft has a chance to be a foundation for us for years.

3. I'm not sure why you would be wary. Both those guys have tons of talent; that's a good thing.

4. It's pronounced like 'Alex' with an 'M' at the front.

Interesting. I presume Teheran is traded for a RF or C or fungible assets. Also Miller is extented in this scenario. This off-season is probably the best time to get this done. It gets harder the closer a player gets to free agency (see Heyward, J).

My other thought is if one or two of Foltynevich, Banuelos, Gant, Baby Harang, Jenkins, Weber develop into serviceable ML starting pitchers, we might have a little bit of a pitching surplus to trade from. Even more so if we add a FA starter this off-season.
