basic immigration data

They certainly are "doing" something. Every time they buy a house they support the overall market and help keep prices higher than would have been the case otherwise. Higher asset prices don't happen without those transactions.
You mean they are renting homes with insane amounts of taxpayer assistance? Then the landlords are receiving the 'benefit'?

There is no "insane amount of taxpayer assistance." And yes all owners of housing assets (including those awful capitalists who rent out their properties) benefit from the demand (both for rented units and owner-occupied units) provided by immigrants. Their money is just as green as everyone else's. I might add from a sociological perspective that immigrants have revitalized a lot of neighborhoods that previously seemed to be in some sort of terminal downward spiral. One interesting personal detail. My landlord is an immigrant from Poland. Funny how these thangs work.

Ah yes - 'Their' money is highly subsidized by the US taxpayer both at hte individual household level and with employers.

Its an absurd value attribution assumption and is only placed as such to get the desired outcome in the study.

However, that also implies that the legal immigrants are actually integrating and accepting American culture.

Legal immigration is a net gain.

Illegal immigration is a net loss.
Legal immigrationis a net gain because of the top1000 people.

Otherwise its neutral at best. WOuld be even better with a strict merit based system.

Yup - As a country we either make the determination we are in fact A COUNTRY or just an economic area.

Actually no. Illegal immigration also provides net benefits to Americans on both the narrow fiscal and broad economic fronts..

In some areas but for the most part they do not.

Low skill, impoverished people do not have a net benefit

Exactly. I'm disappointed how libertarian thinktanks like CATO and Reason have accepted the globalism bullshit.
Chamber of Commerce Republicans. They view things through the lens of how it helps Wall Street and portfolios, not the average person. If there’s more wealth but it’s even more concentrated they believe that’s a good thing.

I fear a bloodletting is now the only thing that will change things.

The push back from the elitists on immigration enforcement is sad. Shame the democrats of today are not hte democrats of 30 years ago. We could unite against the chamber of commerce folk destroying the country to bow at the altar of GDP.

I think the CBO and Cato reports make clear that immigration in a plus for Americans on fiscal and economic grounds. It is not a close call. Doesn't say anything about other arguments.

Im basing my answer on the CBO and Cato reports.

I'm actually basing mine on reality.

Low skill, impoverished people of every origin do not have a net benefit fiscally.

Americans that fit this description are a net drag.

Illegals almost universally fit this description as well.

Sorry, I don't buy into studies that tell me that my eyes are lying to me.

It’s getting to a scary place. Trump’s popularity came from a desire to push back against elitist rule. That’s not how most would say it but that is what it distills to. The institutional obstruction that has blocked that has just turned up the heat under the pressure cooker.
