Bautista released

This sucks. I felt like joey needed more time. Short sighted in my opinion.

Interesting to hear AA discuss Camargo's batted ball data and saying their analysis shows that he has a good chance to handle the job. The times they are a changin.

Yup. xWOBA is 373 which is 5th best on the team right behind Acuna. Compared to his actual 332 WOBA. So the mention of bad luck holds up here. His overall exit veloity is 91.7 which puts him tied for 54th right ahead of Harper and Trout.

Those are two things that our previous FO likely had no clue about.

What's the corresponding roster move? Bring up an extra pitcher since Gohara is being saved for a Wednesday start?

Nevermind. Lucas Sims is being recalled for the next few days.

good to see that AA is willing to cut his losses in a timely manner when an experiment does not work out...it was worth a shot as long as we were clear-eyed about the chances of success

Think this probably reflects everybody's general thoughts.

No harm, no foul - the experiment didn't hurt anything, but when it was becoming apparent it wasn't going to work out (and there was no lightning in this bottle) AA quickly pulled the plug as he should have.

I still haven't seen enough to make me believe that they're convinced that Camargo can hold down the position for a playoff team (or is more than a utility guy) YET, but as long as the team continues to play well despite not having a clear-cut "answer" at 3B, Camargo is at least as good - if not decidedly better - than the other current alternatives. While Johan might not be good enough offensively (the question that remains), he's NOT going to hurt this team defensively - and as long as other guys continue stepping up and performing (even overperforming in some cases) and everyone can continue to be bit players and one or two guys don't have to carry the entire load, I think everyone's fine with finding out exactly what Camargo can be.

If/when guys regress and the team starts to struggle, I can't imagine the fact that AA said "Camargo will be the everyday 3B" on May 20th means he will be come August 31st - if he doesn't perform better than he did during Dansby's absence and the team's still competing for a playoff spot, I can't imagine he'll still be the guy down the stretch. Either Beltre or Moustakas are still perfect fits that won't block Riley in the event he doesn't force his own call-up.

Congrats Johan, you've finally gotten your shot - now run with it.

Pretty much exactly what was expected. This should give Camargo another ~250 PAs before the deadline, and will give him 300+ for the season. At that point the Braves should know all they need to know about him.

Pairing that knowledge with their current standing in the playoff race will determine if they upgrade 3b at the deadline.

Now that Bautista is gone, who else can we incessantly bitch about and blame for all failures?

Peter Moylan?

I am keeping this FO at arms length still. My coppyhart was broken with their cheating bs. But things like this go a long ways to healing.

Camargo was very lucky last year according to Statcast, and has been unlucky this year.

His success in 2018 has been fueled by a huge spike in his BB rate over 70 PAs. He has otherwise been the same hitter as 2017.

Is that BB rate going to hold up? Or is he going to revert back to the .300ish xwOBA guy he was last season?

I’m guessing the Braves will be looking to acquire a 3B rental in 2 months.
