Looks more like Hudson will be back next year since we need the depth.
 
Any surgery is a bad sign in my opinion. I hope they do what they did with Medlen and start him in the pen until we need another starter.
 
Just take it slow with him. Beachy is too valueable to rush. Even without Hudson the Braves might be able to live with Hale in the fifth spot next year.

He came back comparitively early from Tommy John. It's a bad trend in baseball guys rushing back from the injury compared to the old school recovery times. Can't say it's a fact but it seems to have more negative effects.
 
Did Beachy get his degree? He is going to need to find a job. Feel bad for him because he was so promising.
 
This was not a 2nd TJ, just a clean up of some bone debris that was irritating his recovery.

Sounds promising to me. At least they found what was causing his discomfort.
 
I assume Freddy Garcia will be brought back. We'd have Hale as a spot starter as an option, perhaps more starters in the minors developing who could spot start, and hopefully Huddy can be brought back.
 
Beachy had TJ surgery June 22 last year. His first start this year was August 20th. Most pitchers return right around the 1 year mark from surgery. Its said that its really an 18 month recovery but most pitchers return to the majors at the 1 year mark. Beachy was originally scheduled for a return on June 18th. He had a full 14 months before he actually made his first ML pitch. To say he was rushed is not accurate.

Medlen had a full year, and when he came back he was only throwing bullpen outings.

Beachy was immediately thrown into starting when he made his rehab starts, and starting when he came back.

Medlen only had a handful of outings in September of 2011, and had came out of the bullpen the first 3 months of 2012.

Strasburg had a year and 6 months.
 
And it is a fact that Beachy was called up at least two to three starts before they had planned because of injuries.

What happens his first start? Fredi lets him throw nearly ninety pitches in less than four innings. His third start? Fredi lets him pitch eight innings. So, what should have been his first game in the big leagues ends up being eight innings when he was averaging less than five in his rehab starts. Not only was he rushed, he was pushed.

Strasburg had 18 months because he had the surgery at the end of the season. If he had it in June he would have returned in June of the next year. Look at any list of pitchers who returned from TJ surgery and 75% of them returned around the one year mark.

Agreed, maybe he shouldn't have started right away but I don't buy that he was rushed back either. He wanted to come back, some guys come back from TJ and have no issues. In this case it didn't work out that way. But carry on..FIRE FREDI...AHHHHHH!
 
Are people seriously trying to blame Beachy's arm on Fredi? As if Fredi was the sole person responsible for Beachy's usage?

Do you dolts really think Beachy was allowed to pitch without the consent of every single Braves official and medical person, as well as Dr. Andrews himself?

Come on guys...

To clarify, I am not solely blaming Fredi. Just saying he didn't help. It was the organization that rushed him. Not Fredi. I just pointed out that he pushed him once he arrived. Beachy was trying to say he was good to go a few weeks ago. You can't listen to the player. A manager has to protect the player from the player.

"It's the type of small irritations that don't show up on a normal MRI. And so when Dr. Andrews got in there, he found the source of the problems. There were really two areas, one in the back of the elbow and one in the outside, that he had had just these little discomforts over the course of time and couldn't quite get him over the hump. And he found the reason in both cases. I think everybody is encouraged."

That is why, regardless of who clears a pitcher, you take it easy on them when they are coming off such a major surgery.
