Zeppelin-Physical graffiti are absolutely amazing Way better IMO than any stretch of Beatles.

One band I forgot about from the mid 80's to the early 90's was R.E.M.

They really weren't a big commercial success to later in the 80's though.

Nothing against Zeppelin but to even begin to compare their accomplishments and influence to that of the Beatles is laughable. If you like the sound and style of one over the other, then whatever.

That's not true at all. Beatles were highly influetial, as are the Stones, Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc. Some bands draw their influence from a collection of sources. For example NME launched a list of the most influential bands and Radiohead was number 1 on their list. It depends on your influences. To my playing music, Zeppelin is and always will be more influential. As well as to many artists I listen to. Zeppelin was part of the dawn of heavy metal. Sabbath, Zeppelin and Deep Purple are way more awesome for some than the Beatles.
