I don't know how old this news is, but I thought it was really interesting (and awesome) for statheads like myself. As of 2019, statcast will be implementing sprint speed into the equation for xwOBA, specifically on balls deemed to be "topped" or "weakly hit"... I've always liked xwOBA as a metric, but always felt that the fact it didn't incorporate speed was an issue. If you look at lucky and unlucky guys according to xwOBA, its always the super fast or super slow guys who top the list. This should give us a far more accurate assessment of a player's true skill and where his actual wOBA should be trending.
