Bill Shanks back at Scout.com

I'll tell you that is some impressive customer loyalty from those who kept their premium memberships. There was literally no premium content there at all for a while.

And what was there was total crap. I let my premium membership lapse after Bill left because the new guys were just terrible. Say what you want about Bill (and he was forceful in many of his stances), but at least he was a Braves' fan. The new guys readily admitted that they weren't and that would have been alright if they had anything resembling talent. I didn't flat-out accuse them of fabricating their stories on Braves' prospects, but I always found it humorous (and I told the authors this) that kids from the Dominican Republic could seemingly speak better English than the average American adult from what I could discern in the articles being written about them.

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

There is a Bill Shanks thread up now where everyone is welcoming him back. Everyone should go over and make him feel welcome, lol

We have our own community over here. How long is this obsession going to go on? Jeff has done a great job getting all of us back together. Honestly I think it's a tad disrespectful to bring up that old board. If you care so much about what is going on over at scout, maybe you should just stay over there.

I never left and I may head over there to see how things are going. I got along with Bill fairly well, so I don't hold any animosity toward him. Knows his stuff and has good sources. I don't always agree with him, but what's the fun it agreeing with everyone all the time.

Sometimes he was OK, but he too much of a "rose-colored spectacles" approach to prospects. All Braves prospects were considered great, especially if Georgia-bred. His book was half-baked about the "stathead vs. scouthead" non-argument, which he attempted to coattail off Moneyball. He probably also exaggerated his connections within the organization. After all, we're talking about a radio talk show host from a backwoods town. No animosity toward him from here either, but we should offer full, accurate assessments of his work.

He had/has sources that appeared to know what was going on in the organization, especially during the Roy Clark era.

The premium content seemed like a rip-off. Pay a subscription to chat with the same characters who weren't worth chatting with for free.

It was gone pretty quickly. All I wrote was "Wassup? and will the Braves make the playoffs?"

Either they don't trust me or Bill doesn't want to open discussion with the board for fear of it turning too real.

Or, he's reading these forums (which is likely, knowing Bill, his Google notifications, etc.)

I don't have the animosity that some of you do. I remember and appreciate the "Question for Bill" thread. Always had great information. Eventually, though he started to get testy with some posters, and less forthcoming with information. Then the Premium board came along. I didn't mind that except for the constant reminders that there was stuff we peons were not getting. I know some of you paid for the premium site to see what it was, and were often disappointed when you got there.

If he is there, I will go see what he has to say, but this will continue to be my primary source. I doubt I will post there, but I really don't post here much either.

There really wasn't much to it, it was mainly articles on prospects. It was worth having around the trade deadline but very rarely would you get any real scoop, when you did the news broke a few hours later. The talk shows were fun but that was hosted on a free site. Blog talk radio is a website anyone could log into, you didn't need a subscription to listen.

I basically never post but do lurk on the regular, year round. This brought me out. Will post to say, Shanks was greedy and obnoxious, had the big head as we say where I come from. Glad to have this place where things are free from his type of BS.
