Braves acquire Chris Martin for Allard

It does seem like an overpay, but one that's not really worth getting upset over. It's not like Allard's value is that high and the need for bullpen help does warrant an overpay, especially when the player given up isn't a very good prospect.

This is where I'm at. Allard is an overpay but that's the market. Martin is a good reliever and good relievers are going to cost this year.

Allard has value. He’s 21 and cheap. I think he could be a fifth starter or a long guy.

I get we need room in aaa for pitchers. I get there are 40 man issues.

I’d deal him in a heart beat. I just didn’t think rental reliever when Stroman just went for two 45s.

This deal makes me think aa was going to release him next year or leave him unprotected in rule 5.

This goes to show you cant predict what AA will do. Linked to a bunch of guys and get someone, no one talked about.

Even look at how the deal was reported. With other deals, it gets leaked to the media earlier in the process and word gets out and there’s a while before it’s official.

This time, there were 15 minutes between Rosenthal breaking the news and the Braves officially announcing it. And I’m sure that’s only because the Braves leaked it to him as they were putting together a press release.

This is my feeling too. I wasn't attached, but I still expect him to spend a few years in a rotation somewhere. This does not seem to measure up value wise to the deadline deals last year.

Happy to have Martin. He's a very nice addition at the biggest position of need.

Understand that Baseball Reference was simply incorrect. Apologies to all.
