Braves Acquire Erick Fedde

Bandaid that should make the rest of the season a little more bearable, but won’t really make a difference.
Agree. The Braves are 12 back in the wild card and would have to play > .600 ball to get to .500. So unless some unprecedented happens, the team will be done before October rolls around.

I think Fedde at least gives them someone who can--at his best--eat some innings and forestall the need to force one of the younger guys into major league action at this point. I expect Waldrep and probably Fuentes to get some September starts once Gwinnett is done, but this should--but not neseccarily will--provide some short-term help.

Fedde was one that some were wanting in the offseason. I'm guessing Holmes is done for the year.

He can't come back till 9/25 at the earliest. So yeah, he's done this year.

As always, I expect the worst and hope for the best in these scenarios.

On the surface it looks like a complete disconnected from reality move. However if we had money to use and they think they have a shot at resigning him for 26, where we’ll need to add 2 SP then it’s fine.

my dude this move is connected to the reality that the braves have exactly one major league starter on the roster and still unfortunately have to play 58 more games

The entire season has been disconnected from reality so this move is in sync with that. Braves are walking a fine line to some extent. They have tried younger guys who weren't ready and the results have shown that. I think the Fedde move treads water and gives the team a starter who has had some success in the past (and was actually good in 2024). They want to at least put a representative team on the field. Whether the fans want that or not remains to be seen.

Cardinals apparently covering most of the money, which is good. That hopefully makes it more of a sure thing that we will eat Ozuna's and Iglesias' money to hopefully draw better returns for those guys.
