Braves acquire garcia

Due to the extreme likelihood of pitchers being lost to career ending injuries, any deal made for a "win now" pitcher must put a premium on the first year with the new team. Due to the fact alone, the chances of a trade for an Ace this offseason is nearly zero. Add in the fact that Hart has literally just confirmed that the Braves intend to grow their Aces, and I would estimate the chances of the Braves ever signing or reading for an Ace will be nearly zero for the foreseeable future.

If the Braves are going to make a big trade this offseason it will be for position player at a position of organizational need. Those positions being 3b and catcher. The expendable pieces are one of Mallex/Inciarte (though it appears they may consider Ender untouchable), fungible high level prospects like Ruiz/Peterson, and pitching talent currently in A-ball

The only thing is the article that perhaps rang a bit true is how much more difficult it seems to be to acquire hitting. Sale and Archer are available (for a mint?), but can't say the same about Moncado or Bregman maybe.

I don't think the conclusion is necessarily that you can't win by being pitching forward, but to some degree it does seem like its easier to acquire frontline pitching than a young all star hitter at the present time.

These things sort of swing back and forth though. Right now everyone is a little in love with the Cubs' zag. Just like a bit ago (and to some degree now) everyone was in love with high floor college players on a short time frame. It works when it works. Just like most anything else.

If the Braves could grab a young, controllable no doubt filler for 3B it would be swell. Seems easier said than done.

Well you can't say they haven't yet and I think a lot of us though it was possible. If they don't trade for him we were not necessarily wrong.

There is going to be about 10 teams who thought they could have traded for Sale but were wrong.

On a separate note and the only time I will talk about him.... I think I finally have Enscheff pegged. guy does a lot of internet browsing and reading.

Except the narrative was "win by the time we go into the new ballpark". Or was that just conveniently written off as lip service since it doesn't jive with your opinion?

This is sort of a weird post given how many times you have said the Braves were not trying to win in 2017 and their statements were largely lip service and that they would never make a big trade for an ace and if they did it would be stupid.

For the record, you were correct on all points, but it didn't exactly take Sherlock Holmes to draw that conclusion.

Thethe said the "win in 2017" narrative was only something a fool would believe, yet he fully bought into the equally outlandish "Sale to the Braves" narrative. I was pointing out his hypocrisy in calling those who believed in the first narrative a fool, yet doesn't consider himself a fool for taking the narrative he believed hook, line and sinker.

Literally the only difference between the two narratives was that he only bought into one of them. The truth is only a naive and ignorant fan believed either one.

How many more times do people have to say lay off of Enscheff's silly posts (and stop personally attacking him) before it happens? Just reply to the real ones that are insightful (aka most of them).

Psychoanalysis of a poster helps no one understand baseball more and is totally unrelated to the Braves.

Well, technically, the first is just something the FO said, and the 2nd was reported by media outlets (at least that we were heavily involved in discussions). So they weren't exactly the same.

Yeah, don't understand why people are acting as if this is some recent phenomenon. He was obnoxious over at Scout.

I do think we'll still be in on a controllable TOR guy, no matter what Hart leaks via the media. We're not going to shell out the $150-$200 Miliion contracts in free agency for guys in their 30's. We're going to look to draft and develop first of all, and look to trade for guys in their peak like Archer and Sale. If we have to give up the farm, we'll pass, but I think we'll always look in to these guys.

GM to squeezed-out Braves pitchers: ‘If you don’t like it, get better’
They're definitely acting like they think they can be competitive in '17. TIme to have it turned around.

As for the notion that some feelings might be hurt among young pitchers getting squeezed out of the rotation, Coppolella fairly scoffed at that. “As far as the way our pitchers feel, this may not be (politically correct), but if you don’t like it, get better,” he said. “There’s been a lot of opportunities handed out here. There’s been a lot of pitchers pitching where, frankly, I’m – I don’t want to way embarrassed for the Braves franchise, but where a gold-standard franchise like the Braves should be a lot better….

“If you feel like you’ve been slighted, or you have gotten a chance, or you’re mad that we brought somebody better, pitch better. Get better. We don’t owe anybody anything. The best pitchers are going to pitch for us, and if you don’t like it, get better.”

Part of being a gold standard franchise is knowing that some players need some time to adjust to a new level (including young pitchers at the major league level). I'm sure JC knows that, but maybe he feels better after saying what he did. Just like I feel a little better after playing amateur psychoanalyst on a baseball discussion board.

Pretty aggressive statement. Have they heard grousing?

Doesn't matter. This is not how people in a leadership position are supposed to publicly talk about the people they manage.

This was poorly handled by Coppy.

I don't see any problem with this at all. He didn't name anyone or point fingers.

He actually said, If you work hard and perform well, there is an opportunity for you.

Put up or shut up. I like it. While I also want the young guys to succeed, I like that they need to prove they belong. This isn't like the 80's where you could suck and nobody really cared much. This team has a very passionate fan base expecting to compete yesterday.
