Son of a bitch, this headline got me even though it shouldn't have as AA is not our old regime. Hopefully we only gave up the rumored three players headlined by Cumberland. If so I like the trade.

About what I expected in terms of overall value being sent for Gausman. I like all three of the guys being sent to the Orioles, but each has a question mark (or two or three). I'm most curious about how Phillips and Cumberland will do. Zimmerman's performance this year caught me totally by surprise and I have to wonder about his ceiling.
Edit: Adding Encarnacion for O'Day takes a little shine off the deal, but Encarnacion will probably have to make big-time defensive improvements or move across the diamond.

That is...good value.
If the choice was Archer for whatever it took to beat the Pirates package vs Gausman for that package of fungible assets, I think AA clearly made the right choice.
Whether a controllable 2-3 win SP was truly a priority is certainly open for debate though.
