Braves Acquire Matt Adams From Cardinals

Meh, it's not a bad deal value-wise, but I don't think it's the kind of move we should be making. Why trade young bats for a stop gap in a lost season?

I mean he hit 16 HRs and 54 RBI last year in 118 games. That's waaaay better than anyone we have to replace Freddie....and oh yeah....he actually plays 1st base. Still has two years of arbitration left also.

Yepez is decent, but how many of these type guys do we have? 20? It was a need and it was a fair deal both ways. If the Braves were very big on him...they would NOT have dealt him for Matt Adams lol.

You could almost say he's in the Best Shape of his Life.

Guys, this a good deal even without the Freeman injury. We acquired a good bench player for someone who probably won't see the Majors.

But under this rationale, trade most of our prospects for bench guys.

This was not a lopsided deal. But why give up any prospect with a chance (and no, we don't have 20 prospects with Yepez's bat) for somebody who doesn't really help us do anything?

Please stop saying this is a bad deal. It's not -- at all.

What would the lineup be?

Inciarte CF

Phillips 2B

Markakis RF

Kemp LF

Adams 1B

Flowers C

Swanson SS

Peterson/Ruiz 3B

I like this deal. If Adams performs well, with a little SunTrust bump, he will be easy to move. If not, no real love lost with Yepez and ... hey ... no Jim Loney. Win-win.

This. If we were a wild card contender, I'd have no issues with this trade. But don't understand it this year, we aren't a wild card team with or without Freddie.

Makes sense. Adams is a stopgap that's way better than our other options. When Freddie gets back Adams becomes the PH we've needed on the bench. And as has been said he could be traded for a Yepez type at any time.

But think about it - we're talking about this being good because we could potentially move him...a guy we just moved a prospect to get. So that we can only be pretty bad for the next 2 months?

Adams is a replacement-level player. We're not likely to get someone with Yepez's potential back in a deal. And I'm fairly confident we'll keep him for 2018 anyway.
