Atlanta and Kansas City are finalizing a trade that will send center-field prospect Drew Waters, right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Hoffmann and a third minor leaguer to the Royals for the 35th pick in Sunday's draft, which has a $2.2 million slot value, sources tell ESPN.

Love getting rid of Waters to a more old school organization who might value him, especially for something that valuable. The draft was already going to be exciting with the Freeman pick, but this makes it even more so.

More Passan:

Before the trade, the Braves had the 19th-highest bonus pool for the draft. The $2.2 million slot for the 35th pick moves them up to 10th in overall money, with $10.2 million. The Orioles have the most money to spend at $16.9 million, followed by the Diamondbacks and the Mets.

Building our war chest so Druw Jones can fall to our spot.

Just kidding, but I will be convincing myself of that.

Love AA's draft strategy of using money in the later rounds (post 3rd). This just allows him to be even more aggressive.

I'll miss Waters but there was just no path to the big leagues on the Braves.

This right here…this is why this is an excellent trade

Passan says CJ Alexander is the third prospect in the deal. Love this trade, seems like a no brainer to me.

i'm higher on waters than most...i get that.

I don't like selling him for 2 million draft dollars. I thought he was worth more than that. I was thinking we could get someone who could help the team this year for him. I know it's a little more complicated than 2 million, because you are only allowed to spend a specific amount in the draft. Selling him for 2 million regular bucks I would really hate.

Not sure what to think of this. I have not been the biggest fan of the drafts of the current scouting department. They have had a unique strategy of going college guys early and high upside late. Harris has already hit. But I'm not sure what to make of this.

I wonder if waters had fallen far enough that they were not going to protect him on the 40 man next season.
