Braves acquire RHP Touki Toussaint & Bronson Arroyo for Filthy Phil Gosselin

From Touki's Wikipedia:

Toussaint was considered one of the top prospects for the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.[6] The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Toussaint in the first round, 16th overall, of the draft.[7] He signed on June 20. On June 20, 2015 he was traded to the Atlanta Braves along with Bronson Arroyo for Phil Gosselin.[8] After the trade, Dave Stewart was checked into a local Phoenix mental health facility.

Coppolella on Toussaint: "All the trades we've made, we've tried to get upside arms and we feel like he falls into that category"

Toussaint was ranked #71 by BA at the start of the year. Based on his performance this year, he'll hold steady or move up a little. This is a good trade for us. If you are absolutely committed to writing off 2015, it is a very good trade. Otherwise you could have used the funds to upgrade this year and possibly 2016 (depending how the accountants treat the buyout).

Two things. As I pissed and moaned about the wasted money of the Cahill deal, you and others pointed out repeatedly that we got a good draft pick in that deal. Since they went ahead and fired Cahill pretty quickly when he sucked, it seems clear that the Johns made the deal for the draft pick.

This is the same deal except we know who the draft pick is, consensus is we bent Stew over - certainly a promising arm. And I actually like the veteran arm acquired, he can help in September if we're in the race.

Arroyo is largely an innings eater, but he's also got a little streak of clutch. And grit, and leadership. Plus he plays a nice guitar.

So we're not spending our savings on current production, we're facilitating salary dumps and stockpiling arms.

braves pitching pickups last 8 months: miller, wisler, toussaint, fried, banuelos, sanchez, folty, vizcaino, many more

They've found the most impulsive morons they could exploit with Stewart and Preller. What fun.
