Braves acquire RP Ramirez

I wasn't sure if we had to or not? sometimes MLB rules are crazy. He was on Seattle's 40 man roster so wouldn't he need to be on ours or run the risk of being exposed to Rule 5?

I think we have to put him on the 40 man or risk losing him on waivers.

We're talking about a reliever with two very, very good pitches. If he's healthy then there are probably a lot worse arms we could take north with us next spring.

The more I read the more I love getting this guy. If he can somehow stay healthy, there's a very good chance he can establish himself as a useful reliever and maybe more. He's got late inning reliever kind of stuff. We're not competing next year so I could think of a lot worse things than throwing some innings to a young arm with potential.

I like him more so than McCrappy or Cunniff..

Oh, sorry, you said 25-man. We may have to keep him on the 40-man, I have no idea.

I like the trade, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that this isn't a guy we should be counting on in the majors right away. We're talking about a guy with 17 BB in 17.2 major league IP. If he can quickly harness his command and at least get those walks down some, then sure. If not, while we don't plan on winning, I don't see that it would help to throw him in against big league hitters. I'd rather sit him in Gwinnett for a while in that case.

He has to break camp a Brave. So he does well and we put him on the 25, or he does well and we flip him in ST. It's a no lose situation barring the PTBNL which is usually a player we'll not wanna keep due to position overflow. Basically, these are the no brainer deals you make early.

I know we have a member of our FO who came from the Yankees that suggested Banuelos and Eury Perez. Hopefully it's the same guy and he has some knowledge that makes this worthwhile, If not I'm sure it won't be a big loss of a PTBNL

That's immaterial. The greatest living baseball minds post here on a constant basis, because they have nothing else to do in their waking hours. Somebody will assuredly post here why this guy sucks, and it will continue to signal the obvious decline of the Braves as any kind of vialble force in the National League.

That's how brilliant we are: we do our professional scouting and front-office consulting in our sleep. Frees up time a lot of time to contribute here—though I wouldn't mind seeing a cut of those membership dues eventually, The Don.

I'm curious what the PTBNL is. I'm not going to be happy if it's selecting someone in the Rule 5. Toescar Hernandez needs to be our pick

Yes you trade a player taken with the rule V draft. It has the added benefit of that traded player does not have to stay on 25 man roster.
