Braves activate Albies, Option Camargo

Hamels throws another simulated game or BP today, and then will see how he feels over the weekend.

Even a serviceable Hamels is a huge boost.

Fried expected to miss one start.

mother of god. the season may yet be saved.

I wonder how Folty is coming a long.

Yep this is big! Our offense will just have to out score teams. I know we missed Ozzies bat and glove but his energy was missed too. If Hamels and Fried can both come back next week and be healthy then we have a chance to be pretty dangerous.

To say we have missed Albies is an understatement. He has been the 3rd best 2B in the NL each of the past two seasons. Braves have the worst 2B production in the NL this year.

I hope Ozzie returns with a flash, but am prepared to watch him struggle for a few games. He hasn't faced MLB pitching for a long time. Facing Lopez today, then Voth, Fedde, Corbin and Scherzer. That's a hard row to hoe.

I wonder what Comargo's long term role is?

I could see him being a trade chip if we have the money to take on a bigger contract from a team trying to dump salary. If not, We can probably keep hech for less than he makes.

His long term role was super utility guy. He’s become such a liability at the plate though, that his future as a bench player is even in jeopardy. He’s not even hitting LHP, which he’s supposed to be good at.

Add Albies to this potent lineup, and cobble together something resembling a rotation around Fried, Hamels, Anderson and a bunch of guys throwing 2-3 innings at a time, and the Braves should be able to make the expanded playoffs no problem.

After that point they need to get lucky.

If you put on your thethe Super Optimism Glasses and squint really hard, you can imagine:

1. Fried coming back as dominant as before
2. Hamels coming back and pitching effectively
3. Folty retaining his velocity gains from the alternate site and proving himself capable of getting through five innings against a big league lineup
4. Albies coming back and playing well

At that point you can run out a Fried-Hamels-Anderson-Folty playoff rotation. Couple that with a solid bullpen and a ferocious lineup, and you might be able to make some noise.

Don't think you can count on anything from Folty. If he could give you 3 innings in a bullpen type game to start after an opener, that'd be gigantic but I'd think that would be best case scenario from where we stand today.

I had moderate hopes for Camargo after 2018. I didn't know if he could do another >.800 OPS, but I thought he could fill in at 2B and 3B and do something with the bat off the bench. El Wrongo for me. He's kind of in roster limbo (salary just a tad too high to justify) and it's my guess that he--and many like him throughout baseball--will be hitting the non-tender route and because of that, he has next to no trade value. As bad as he's been, he's probably a better offensive player than Hechevarria, but Hechevarria can play SS. Just a lost season for Camargo.
