Braves And A's Discussing J. Upton And Gattis?

Mike Trout is one major leaguer, your just using semantics to make it look worse. Shelby Miller is 24 and has a 3.40 era in his first 2 full seasons and has 4 years of team control left.

It's a horrible trade unless Jenkins turns into an ace.
 
That you have to bring in Trout drives the point home even more. Trout is like getting several big leaguers at once. Conceding Miller is a good piece, the prospect could have been better. But I suppose it's over and done with now. We'll have a worse trade to talk about in a couple of days if some of these crazy rumblings wind up true.

All I can say is I hope the reporter is talking out of his ass when he's saying Gattis for Shark. Because that's a direct contradiction of one of the main justifications for the Heyward trade.
 
The very first post of this thread was a reporter tweeting the teams were discussing Gattis and Justin, and Samardzija may be the bait.

If that were true, and we made that trade, we are giving up a guy who we have control of for four more years for a guy who wouldn't fit in long-term.

Along with the statement that Heyward was going to cost too much to re-sign, Miller is being lauded as a guy we have control over.

Justin is probably the most sought after power bat right now, and now is the time to make the deal. Those 10 teams that want RHed power will start to move to Plan B soon, and then The braves start losing leverage. The Braves MUST trade him, and their only leverage is the number of teams that want him. Once that number of teams start going down, so too does the Braves leverage. Trade him now when that leverage is at its peak.

Hart is probably waiting for Walker plus another player, so as soon as they offer Walker plus Miller or Saunders, Hart needs to jump.

Once JUp is dealt Cruz and Cespedes become the next most desirable power options. Once they are off the board It's time to deal Gattis to the team that missed out on the other guys. Then make a deal for Kemp to fill a corner spot long term.

It was clearly speculation on his part by the way he worded it. I think it had more to do with the previous information coming out about trading Shark more than anything else. Of course today we have heard more about the White Sox being interested in him.

That said, I don't think we match up best with the A's personally. Though I understand why they'd be as interested as anyone in Gattis.
 
There can't be 10-12 teams in on Justin. That probably includes teams like the Astros and Padres who are just hoping to get some good PR.
