Braves Claim OF Eury Perez From Yankees

This means we have to drop someone from the 40 man roster. I imagine it'll be one of the holdovers rather than an offseason addition. Terdo, Cunningham or Costanza? Jose seems like the best guy to go.

He'll probably clear waivers and come back to Gwinnett anyway. Been there forever.

We'll have to drop another when (if?) KJ makes the team.

Spring Training might actually be interesting this year. We have a lot of guys trying to prove themselves rather than just "get in shape".

This year's team will be interesting in general. We won't be contending for a wild card spot most likely but I'm excited to see what the final product will look like.

Almost time for those BSOML articles to come out!

Eury is now on the 40-man. Once they file the paperwork on Gomes (this week) and Toscano (who knows), we'll need to clear two spots for them. Constanza is as good as gone. Best DFA candidates for the other spot would seem to be Elmer Reyes, Ian Thomas, or Juan Jaime.

We then have three players on minor league deals who are likely to make the 25-man roster if healthy: Wandy, Kohn, KJ. We can open one spot on the 40-man once spring training starts by putting Winkler on the 60-day DL. Might need to trade a reliever at the end of spring training to make things work.

Thomas shouldn't be DFA'd, nor should Joey T as some have suggested (not just here but elsewhere). I could see Reyes at some point, but not this early on when you have candidates like Jaime and Constanza who are both out of options. So those two make the most sense unless you figure on them possibly making the team. As I see it, Jaime has no shot and Constanza is unlikely so I'd DFA Jaime and go in that order. Further, I could also see us opening a spot soon by trading someone like Avilan.

Hard to know what to do with Reyes. He's the big league back-up SS if Simmons were to go down at this point (although he'll start the season in Gwinnett). Gosselin could be a short-term guy if Simmons were only down for a few games and Peraza could slide back over to that position. I have no idea on Reyes' ceiling. Supposedly a good glove guy and he hit for a decent average in 2014, but I wonder about his offensive ceiling.

PS--I agree that Thomas should get a shot in spring training to take a LHP spot in the pen. I don't have much of a feeling on Terdoslavich either. Could be a decent bench piece, but he's pretty much a "bat only" guy.

Don't forget Peterson spent a lot of time at SS - not likely a long-term replacement should Andrelton be out for months, but he could potentially step in if he had to go on the 15 Day DL. I don't imagine he'd be any worse there defensively than Ramiro Pena would've been.
