Braves currently 25th in MLB payroll

Thats depressing. 5 teams at or above 200 Mill? JEEZ, thats a big hill to climb.

Well, 4 really. And those 4 have combined to win 4 of the last 15 WS titles. The team who has had the biggest payroll for the past 5 years or so by a pretty good margin has won 0 titles in that span. It's not a necessity to get there.

and the best team in baseball is operating at around 150 million..

I think a good number for any team is right around there. you need to mix your youth with $$ FA, and use the rest to extend talent and arb bumps.

If bigger payrolls dont help them win then why are those teams the ones who fought tooth and nail to keep away a salary cap? When the day comes that we do have a salary cap those teams should get only 25% of what other teams get since more money doesnt equate to winning.

Huh? I never said paying more can't help. I just gave numbers. 4 of the last 15 WS titles have been won by the 4 teams who are basically at $200 million+. And the top payroll has won 0 titles in the recent past.

It's obviously not necessary to spend $200 million to win a WS. That's all I said. Because it's obviously true.

It's depressing the Marlins have 2 titles and we have 1.

IF the world series was won by the best team ever year I might agree. The playoffs are largely a crap shoot and a higher payroll does give an incompetent team like the Yankees more shots at the playoffs.

well it can sure, but the problem of big payroll is eventually you end up LIKE the Yanks are now, old, expensive a trashed farm system and staring 5 or 6 years of awful in the face.
