Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

The Braves were said to be looking for a LHed compliment to CJ earlier this offseason. I'm sure this is still the case.

That's the best move, in my opinion. On top of his ability against lefties, I love having his fire on the team. They should just let him go for the year and see what happens. I think he struggled a lot because they were on him all the time in the clubhouse about calming down.

#Braves have gotten good offers for Upton With so many fr-agt hitters signed expect bids to improve & deal slugger, likely at Win. Meetings

I know the Braves don't care but it must be weird for Justin to see the Braves have put Gattis in LF and they've already signed your replacement before they've even traded you. The uncertainty of your future must suck.

Walker and a hitting prospect for JUpt, RP makes sense.

I think he can hit. He lost his stroke trying to hit for power. Seitzer could be exactly what he needs, 'cause Seitzer's comments on his philosophy of hitting matched up perfectly with Johnson's when he finished second for the batting title in '13.

Man...it's seeing up perfectly to get a huge haul for Justin. Hart has played this very well so far. Seattle has a lot of young pieces. Get as many as possible.

Seattle makes the most sense for us, and them.

Oak trading Donaldson.

LAA likely regressing next year.

A 2-5 of Seager-Upton-Cano-Cruz would be nasty.

Take it FWIW.

Braves sign RF, pushing out Justin Upton. Mariners trade RF for SP, pushing out Taijuan Walker. These two things seem related.

That's another reason to say that the Markakis signing could be viewed as a smart move. Markakis was one of the few (if not the only) remaining free agent capable of handling RF on an everyday basis -Rios and Aoki are the only other two, but neither of them (not many do) offer the power Upton does-. Therefore, Hart and the F.O took him off the market, potentially driving up the cost for Upton.

Some would question whether Markakis can indeed handle RF.
