Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

Fried is in package. Braves obsessed with guys recovering from Tommy John. Clearly some strategy there.

Worth noting: Chad Macdonald, who recently joined the #Braves' front office, spent the previous three years with the #Padres.
 
If Fried is the centerpiece... color me unimpressed... there should be a whole lot more coming back than Fried plus lower tier prospects.
 
Fried was #53 in BA's top 100 before the 2014 season. Kid is 20 and a power LHP. Had Tommy John in August. Here's the snippet from BA:

"Fried has the pitch quality and the projection to become a frontline starter in San Diego. His next step is to challenge hitters more frequently in the strike zone."
 
I really hope that we are getting rid of Johnson in this deal as well. We should have gotten more in return for Upton.

One name that has been mentioned in Padres-Braves trade talks: Michael Gettys, a tooled-up OF from Georgia. Would be PTBNL if he's in deal.
