I love AJ Preller.
It's worth considering that the deal hasn't been announced yet. It's possible the composition of the return could change.
Keith Law PRIOR to 2014, Padres top 10:
3 - Fried
6 - D. Petersen
11 - J. Petersen
Padres 9th best system overall.
Obviously things change over the course of a year, but that sounds okay. Not great, but a realistic return for a 1 year rental.
That was always fantasy GM speak.Wow...remember when we honestly thought we could lure David Ross back here to be Jon Lester's personal catcher?
My, how things have changed.
I would be so much more on board with this and the entire re-build if we hadn't given Markakis that silly contract.
Well, I for one am just glad that we can continue to get trashed by the media for having crappy fans because absolutely NO ONE is going to games in 2015 according to this board. It's the gift that keeps on giving. Happy Holidays?
Badler is BA's token internet stathead dickhead. He does good international reporting, but he is the most worthless of BA reporters.
I guarantee you John Manuel or Jim Callis (though he's left BA) would never say something this pointless.
We got 3 top 10ish prospects from one of the better farms in the league. The names aren't going to wow most of you, but that's a fairly decent haul for a 1 yr rental.
It's a solid trade. Obviously you wish we'd have gotten the top 20 overall prospect that it was rumored we were looking for, but I like this deal over other deals I've heard mentioned. It doesn't have the wow factor making you feel like we fleeced them, but it's good value, imo.
Like I said. Quantity over quality is what the Braves went with.

This reminds me of one of those Murph trade proposals where he is trying to get a stud player from another team and just starts tacking on more and more fringe prospects until the sheer weight of all those bodies makes up for the lack of talent.
We all laugh at him, but this time the Braves are on the **** end of a Murph trade...
Speaking of payroll, where will the Braves' payroll end up? Hart and Co. specifically said that the payroll wouldn't drop below the $112 million (or so) mark from 2014. I guess we are at about $88 million now?
