Braves Extend Inciarte

I think we'll move an outfielder by the end of 2017 but not Mallex. I would bet on Muk being moved.

I don't think they want Mallex/Ender in the OF at the same time. Mallex was likely insurance if a good deal came along for Ender or he wouldn't sign an ext. Now that he's under cheap control for the duration of Mallex's pre FA years that makes him obsolete, imo. I don't doubt Nick gets moved as well to make room for another power bat.

I think Mallex is more valuable to us on the field right now than he is on the trade market. This is a guy that was not a big prospect, we need him to establish his major league value before we trade him.

Possible, but Mallex doesn't have much value in the market. Smarter move is to move Markakis and cover all the ground in the OF

Great deal for the braves. If ended doesn't hit he's worth this on his defense alone. If he hits 75 percent of what he did in the second half he's super valuable. If he hits close to the second half its amazing

Mallex needs to stay with us. Both our corners are old and likely will get hurt. Dpeterson still a year away if you believe in him. I hope mallex tears up aaa and then we either move markakis at the deadline or mallex is the second or thir piece in a monster deal

Mallex arm worries me about playing him outside of left and his bat is prob a 8th or 7th guy at ceiling

Actually not sure Mallex doesn't have pretty decent value at this point - to the right teams. Luckily, two of them match up pretty well with us.

Oakland has Ryon Healy taking over at 3B now with Matt Chapman breathing down his neck. Either of those would be nice adds for us depending on additional pieces.

DMGM's still stuck between a rock and a hard place. Mallex and Ruiz might get you Moustakas and a window to negotiate an extension. If you landed him, you could then transition Riley to LF and Maitan to RF - that would put them both on the fast-track where they could be ready to replace Kemp and Markakis.

Terrific deal. Hart was really the first guy to do these FA1-2 contracts with the Indians, so not surprising to see the device being used here.

If Mallex Smith proves to have 15-20 HR power along with leading the league in triples and stolen bases every year, and presuming strong defense, that would play nicely in RF.

You know, Kemp can play RF as easily as LF. He's got plenty of arm. I do not agree with your assessment of Smith's offensive skills. I think there's more in there.

This is a pretty great signing. At the very worst, Ender is an excellent 4th OFer and "worth" this contract. Best case scenario he improves offensively like many of you predict and the Braves have an asset as valuable as Eaton.

I think this contract makes Mallex completely expendable. Inciarte is now controlled longer than Mallex, so there is no advantage to downgrading from Inciarte to Mallex. I wouldn't be shocked to see Mallex traded very soon to a team in need of a cheap CFer.

He seems to have really enjoyed playing for the Braves last year and he mentioned in particular how comfortable he was playing for Snit. An option would make this an even better deal for the team. Great work by the FO.

Btw this move significantly increases his trade value. He won't be traded this off-season. But if we make a move in a year or two, the Eaton trade is a comparable to keep in mind.

Think you were the first to make this observation. I agree completely; it probably increases his trade value the way that Sale's contract enhanced his worth.
