BRAVES FINAL DRAFT SIGNING BOARD: Backstrom on board!

Don’t worry, Owens will be better!

It will be interesting to compare the performance of Beau Philip, picks 5-10, and the bigger overslot guys we signed from 11-40 to Allan, since that is basically the difference between signing him for 2.5-3 mil or so if we had drafted him with our second pick. We've had good luck with the scatter shot approach during international signings (Acuna, Albies) so hopefully it works out well for us here.

I swear Backstrom signed, but it might have been an hallucination.

Hunter Bishop, taken #10 just after Langeliers, signs for $4.1M (about 600K under slot). Langeliers signed for 4.0M

As of 5:30 June 30, No. 4, 8 and 31 overall have not signed. That Bleday (Brewers), Jung (Rangers) and Busch (Dodgers).

MLB Draft Tracker has not updated Braves in over a week.

So, J2 today. Of course the Braves are limited to no more than 10,000 per signing.

Quick question: If a US player wasn't drafted, he could be signed as a NDFA. Why not load the minor leagues with athletes who haven't played baseball in a number of years, but focused on another sport only to have it play out (ie. a HS football player who can't or doesn't want to go to college, a track athlete, etc.)

It seems to me that signing an International 16 YO baseball player for less than $10K means that they aren't far along in baseball skills to warrant a bigger bonus so are being signed based on potential. Why not an 18 YO US guy who's been a football player but has nowhere to go now?
