Braves get Schimpf

Ravin got squeezed out by Moylan and Gomez.

Schimpf's strikeout rates the past two years in both AAA and the majors are shocking. I'd be surprised if he beats out Tucker.
 
Well, in the past few days some of you have been suggesting that AA had somehow dropped the ball by not having enough depth on the second bench in AAA.

This is strictly a depth signing. It is likely that unless he has a hot streak that coincides with an injury to an IF, he will never see the MLB field.

In an emergency, he is in AAA.

Oh... and it is likely that he cost nothing of any consequence...
 
10-15 years ago this would be a perfect guy to have on the bench and have him try to hit a HR in the 8th or 9th inning. With pitching staffs the way they are these days, those guys are too much of a luxury, but at least he can play a bit of 2B so not a terrible guy to have as a backup's backup.
 
Well, at least this kid has power. So I can see taking a flyer on him and trying to make him better. If it works you have something, if not nothing lost.

lil adam schimpf could be a nice little Matt Adams replacement for us. Decent power coming off the bench.
