Per DOB, other teams could push us out of the bidding but that we are definitely interested in the SS.

Diaz's chief asset is his bat. Defense at SS is raw -- there have been rumblings about a possible conversion to OF because of his arm. Would guess that the Braves might envision trying him in a super utility role while keeping an eye open at 2B.

This is one of those situations where Atlanta probably won't engage in aggressive bidding, instead offering up playing time, the security of their newly cemented core, and solid Latin American development/operations (although Aledmys is Cuban).

I noted the Braves interest in Diaz when MLBTR first reported it early on this off-season, then again in January I passed on Jesse Sanchez report via twitter naming us among the teams interested. According to what I've read it seems the Braves interest in him is for the infield (second or third base). But the Cardinals and others seem very interested in him too. So I am not sure our chances at signing him. Also, Diaz apparently has a bit of a preference for short but is willing to move to another position.

BTW, we have also showed some interest in another Cuban player, catching prospect Yenier Bello. The Mets, Padres and others are in on him too.

Yanks are out on Diaz.

Roto said most teams looking at him for positions other than SS, so not playing a premium spot could lower the bidding.
