Braves IL Updates Thread

I have a feeling Gohara will never pitch for us again. Not that there’s going to be many suitors lining up to trade for him. I see him being let go in the off-season.

Why would they straight release a high-potential player still making the minimum and still with minor-league options? Makes no sense.

Goes through pregame workout
July 29, 2019
Swanson (foot) went through pregame exercises on the field Monday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

ANALYSIS
Swanson hasn't played since Tuesday due to a bruised foot. He showed no signs of the issue during Monday's workout. Both he and the Braves expect him back when first eligible Saturday.

Progressing in throwing program
July 23, 2019
O'Day (forearm) has progressed to playing long toss but has yet to throw off a mound, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

ANALYSIS
The Braves haven't yet ruled O'Day out for the remainder of the season, though he's not expected to be back until either late August or September. The right-hander has been on the shelf since the start of the 2019 campaign due to a right forearm injury.

Is O'Day even real?

Recovery not going as planned
August 11, 2019
Swanson's recovery from a foot contusion "hasn't really taken the turn for the better like we wanted," said manager Brian Snitker, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

ANALYSIS
His return is clearly not imminent, and it's possible he is dealing with something slightly worse than a contusion. Swanson should be considered out indefinitely, and in shallower leagues without IL spots it might be time to pivot to a different option. Charlie Culberson and Johan Camargo will continue to share time at shortstop.

**** me. Is Swanson seriously going to miss the playoffs again? At what point does he get the injury-prone tag.

Ozzie has too long of a throwing motion to play short.

His arm already isn't that great at 2b, add in how long it takes him to actuall wind and release and it's not as appealing of an idea as it was to me 2 years ago.

While I agree it's a moot point to do so now, his arm was enough to play shortstop when he was in the minors. Erratic at times, his range was really good and he could go get it. Furcal arm,no way but it was serviceable. In any case, he's where he belongs and has turned himself into a heck of a second baseman.

Yeah. Culberson's defense at short has been spectacular.

He is way smoother than Camargo out there. Johan has a gun at short but that doesn't balance our his horrible range. It just helps him get outs on balls that should be more routine.

I wouldn't strict platoon them at short. But I'd give Charlie most of the starts.

Yeah but it was the minors.

I wanted him and Dansby to switch initially. But Ozzie just doesn't have the arm to be a great defensive shortstop. Dansby has good enough range and an above average arm to where he's fine at short.
