Braves IL Updates Thread

Because you don’t think he can return fully healed this season, or because you don’t think he’ll be useful even if healthy?

Quality depth is not a “nothing burger” IMO. We’ve burned through most of our immediate positional depth due to injuries and trades (unless you think Pache and/or Waters is feasible in 2019). Regardless of what you think about Riley’s struggles, there’s no denying he’s a damn sight better insurance policy than Rafael Ortega or Lemarre.

Now let’s hope for some good news on Dansby.

Riley's problems were immediately apparent, as I pointed out even when he was in the middle of his hot streak. Those problems are not going to suddenly remedy themselves by spraining a knee ligament, taking weeks off to heal, and then playing in a handful of rehab games.

Those problems will exist 2 weeks from now, will continue after a few rehab games, and will continue to exist until he makes real adjustments that will likely require a lot more time than is left in the 2019 season.

Riley's issues were not injury related (as was probably the case with Ender), so recovering from an injury will have no affect on his underlying skills.

Sure—I have been, and remain, a Riley-skeptic—especially for 2019. And I think Duvall is probably a better RH OF option, once defense is factored; I’m less certain re Camargo as a Donaldson-rester. Nonetheless, given Riley’s prodigious power and the Braves’ dwindling OF options (especially RH-hitting), it seems he could still contribute against LHP above/beyond a “nothingburger”.

Well it’s not good news....per DOB

#Braves’ Swanson said he’s been off his feet most of last week per doctor’s orders. He’s taking ground balls on knees but otherwise not doing much. No timetable for return. Said it’s frustrating but nothing he can do about it, that it’s not something he can play through.
