Braves in talks w/ NL West club

I'm totally fine with trading Simmons to get a young, impact bat to pair with Freeman, but trading him for a package that involves pitching just seems pointless.

I agree striker about the Dodgers. They have a few top prospects, and one of them would have to be involved or no deal. Gurrrero, Urias, De Leon, and Pederson are all good and we would need 2 of them or its no deal bc if someone doesn't overpay then we keep him. He's cheap and doesn't have to be traded. Urias is a beast and probably is untouchable so Guerro, De Leon, Peraza, and a bullpen piece or Simmons and Jenkins. Or something along those lines.

I don't see us getting two of those guys. I think Urias and Seager are untouchable (both top 5 prospects in the game). You might be able to pry DeLeon loose but he'd be about all you'd get. You could probably get them to add something in if you build the trade around Guerrero. Maybe a high ceiling guy in their second tier like Chris Anderson.

Job Pederson is interesting. He's young, his power is ridiculous, and he walks a lot but there is a ton of risk there. He struck out almost 30% of the time last year and doesn't look like he'll ever hit for average. Not sure how I feel about him.

I'm okay w/ trading Simmons, but we need to come away the clear winner in the trade. Not sure the Angels have enough young talent to make that happen. Padres and Dodgers would though.

I truly feel the Braves will lose any trade they make with Simmons unless it's a once in a geneartion deal like the one the Indians got with Colon back in the day. His contract is really team friendly and he's a proven commodity.

@Buster_ESPN: Sources say the Angels are among the teams in conversation with the Braves about Andrelton Simmons. Erick Aybar under contract for 1 more yr

And now it's looking legit:

The problem with the Angels is that they have the worst farm system in baseball, and unless we're looking for more arms (including one to plug into the rotation THIS season), we don't seem to match up. Although...

Garrett Richards, one of Hector Santiago/Nick Tropeano/Tyler Skaggs/Sean Newcomb, and Aybar for Simmons and Maybin might make some sense on their end. They need a LF and long-term answer at SS. They have the financial flexibility to go after one of the "Aces" to replace Richards and plenty of inexpensive SP depth to move.

Would give us a Top 4 of Richards/Miller/Teheran/Wisler going into the new park. You could then trade from the pitching depth to try to pry McMahon away from Colorado. Aybar bridges the gap to Albies and we'd be set on the left side for years to come.

This might be wishful thinking, BUT to me, if you are dealing with the dodgers, you cant accept anything less than Urias, Pederson and Guerrero.. Especially after they took our lunch money on the Olivera trade.. I know its a lot to give up on the dodgers end, but for the braves to trade the best young defensive SS who is signed to a team friendly contract, this should be the minimum they accept imo.. sadly, i dont have much faith in the front office at the moment to actually get a return like that. And if the dodgers say no and laugh in our face at an offer like that, then no need to trade Simmons.

@JonHeymanCBS: Simmons is definitely something for mets to investigate. They have players who'd interest braves. Pads are in on this, too.

Simmons is cheap and signed long term so yes the Dodgers would have to give up alot and they didn't then bye. This Is about them wanting Simmons not us having to trade him. We already got hosed on one deal with them so yeah I'd have a package and if they said no then walk away and nothing hurt. Go to another team. But for me De Leon and Guerro would have to be involved. As long as the Dodgers got to keep Urias and Seager then I'm sure they wouldn't care much. They can buy whatever they want anyways.

The Angels don't have depth but Newcomb is a good enough arm to build a deal around. He's an enormous lefty with high end stuff who's not far away. He needs to get his walks under control but he's a top 20 prospect.

@JeffPassan: Braves listened on Andrelton Simmons last year, too. Talked an absolute blockbuster with Yankees that would've also included Justin Upton.

@JeffPassan: When you're in Atlanta's position, you listen on everyone, even your most valuable assets. A full teardown can require a lot of creativity.

Sherman: #Mets inquired on Simmons this morn and told ask price is Harvey or deGrom, so no way. Also shows how #Braves initially valuing Simmons

Yeah in division should cost more. But Simmons has a ton of value and won't be had for peanuts. Finally we're in the drivers seat for once it seems.

I think it speaks more that our team is looking to move a contract like Simmons and that Chipper may be the last lifetimer we'll see
I think even Freeman they'll try to unload.
