Braves in talks with DBacks for Trevor Cahill

Given the Vizcaino suspension I wonder if the Braves are also trying to nab some late-inning relief too.

The Diamondbacks have two relievers coming back from TJ: David Hernandez and Matt Reynolds.

Just sayin'.

There are obviously zero teams foaming at the mouth to get Chris Johnson, but he fits better in ARI than anywhere else. Tomas has flamed out thus far as a 3B, which leaves them with Jake Lamb. Lamb is solid, but a LHH that could use a platoon partner. Might not happen, but it's a bad contract swap that would make sense.

If #Braves got Cahill, Dbacks would have to either pay large portion of $12M he's owed in '15 or take a bad contract from ATL.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm seriously starting to wonder if Hart knows what year it is.

Depending on the price what's wrong with SP depth? He's young and has been successful before. He would be an upgrade over Wandy or Stults. But I'm really surprised we're not looking for OF help.

I assume this will all need to get sorted out tonight. Tomorrow (midnight I suppose) is the opt-out deadline on Wandy and Stults. They can walk if not on the roster. If on the roster, they would effectively be signing a MLB free agent contract, which means they can't be traded until June or so. That's how I think it works at least.

I don't see how you figure that likely. Cahill was terrible last year and hasn't been anything to talk about in years. Plus Martin could likely give you a better performance A LOT cheaper.

D'Back fans will celebrate Cahill being moved, actually with these rumors they already are starting to do so.

Bowman chimes in.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- As Braves president of baseball operations John Hart ended a conversation with his friend Lee Janzen late Thursday afternoon, he told the two-time United States Open golf champion, "I've got to get upstairs, we're working on some deals."

With just two more days remaining in the exhibition season, the Braves are still exploring the possibility of acquiring a starting pitcher, a backup outfielder and a reliever via trade. A Major League source said some of their discussions have been aimed toward the possibility of acquiring right-handed starter Trevor Cahill from the D-backs.

Looks like this is going down.

The #Dbacks indeed are on the verge of sending beleaguered starter Trevor Cahill to the #Braves, as @nickpiecoro reported earlier.

Curious what the deal will look like. But Cahill's not a bad low risk shot to take.

The #Braves are expected to pay about half of Cahill's $12 million salary.

Agree Hawk. Half is just too much unless there is more happening here. Cahill maybe worth more than Wandy, but not much more. $3-4m maybe.

This is totally dependent on prospects. Braves have no obligation to Cahill past this year, so the money essentially means nothing.

I disagree with him being worth more than Wandy at all as long as Wandy is healthy. Arizona fans are offering to pay for a limo to get him out of town for a reason.
