Braves Interested In Jason Grilli

The Atlanta #Braves have informed free agent reliever Jason Grilli know they have interest in him
 
I'm fine with it depending on the price. Aside from the 1st half of last season he's been consistently an excellent pitcher. Also I double enjoy the idea of JS/Hart negotiating with Gary Sheffield (Grilli's agent).

Just another guy that can possibly be spun off for prospect(s) midseason IF we actually do trade Justin and/or Gattis. Contenders would be more than willing to give up A-ball arms for guys like Grilli and/or Johnson if they're in the mix come July.
 
If we sign Grilli, that must mean both Varvaro and Carpenter are going bye bye (not that I'd miss either one).
 
I just don't see any team willing to give contributable talent for a mediocre 38 year old relief pitcher with a wonky arm. Jim Johnson is the kind of high risk, high reward proposition I could see reaping that type of reward from, but Grilli is iffy. Of course, if the dollars are right then maybe I'll be singing a different tune.
 
I was hoping for Guido Grilli.

Never know, if he rebounds, almost every contending team will have interest in an experienced arm to add to the pen to either add depth or fill a need.

We've seen the Braves do it for guys like Reardon and Pena, Bob Wickmam, etc.

Can we expect massive haul, probably not but can acquire some decent prospects to fill needs and depth and every once in a while you can turn a Heathcliff Slocum for a franchise changer like Varitek & Lowe.
 
I am getting the feeling that the plan is to overload the team with pitching. Just max it out. Have a surplus of nice arms to choose from. Then try and cobble enough offense together to win 88 games and make the wildcard.

That's understandable. But he was pretty amazing a couple years ago and has closing experience. If he pitches well enough, some team could be desperate enough to send us one quality prospect for him at the deadline.

All depends on the price really. If he's signed for 2-3 million or less, it's worthwhile imo.
 
Dude was a dominant all star closer just 2 years ago...ya what an awful idea to bring him in on a buy low. Geeze. Now if we pay him like a closer or setup man that's a different story. But if we can get him on the cheap, seems to be a good buy low opportunity to me. Besides it'd have to be a 1 year deal, so not really any risk.
 
It's a good move for the right price, but if I'm Grilli I'd want to go somewhere that didn't have the best closer in baseball in the pen. It's a good move if we can get him though.
 
the braves are the place to be for your one year bullpen reclamation project. Just don't sign for more than 2 year or we'll ride you to TJ surgery.

If this guy is good for the braves you can flip him for a C+ to B prospect. Bullpen guys are valuable at the deadline if they are striking people out. This guy could be that guy for us.

I'd trade any RP Freddie has had more than 2 years with. I think we have plenty of guys in the minors who could perform like Vavaro or Carpenter if needed.
