Braves Moving Salcedo to outfield

ITEM: Edward Salcedo has Tweeted that he is moving to the outfield.

Considering he has one of the best arms in the system, this is not a far-fetched notion. Currently on the Gwinnett DL, the Braves suddenly have many more prospects at his old position than in the outfield. Kubitza, for one, should be in AAA any day, but even Joe Leonard was outplaying Salcedo.

Doesn't help his lame bat, however.

For guys like Salcedo, Terdoslavich and Kubitza who don't project as first-team players, positional versatility is important. Ideally, you want guys like that to be able to be comfortable playing all the infield and outfield corner spots by the time they reach the majors. In the case of Terdoslavich though, we already know he can't handle third except on an emergency basis. Kubitza and Salcedo should be fairly proficient at all four since they came up as third basemen.

I'm more optimistic about Salcedo than most. The Braves have been a bit too aggressive in promoting him. Next year, he'll repeat at AAA and do much better. It is worth pointing out he is a year younger than Kubitza but playing one level higher.

I'm rooting for the guy! Now that he won't have to think as much in the field this may help him at the plate. He doesn't have a horrible swing imo.

I'm rooting for the kid as well. He was very well regarded by many scouts. Tools and tools..but they haven't translated well. Some don't. Happens, but I still think about Wilson Betemit that everyone thought would be the next A-Rod..or similar. He wound up carving out a good career as a backup. May not happen with Salcedo, but I still think he'll be a serviceable MLB player....maybe? LOL.

I thought I remember being a pretty good prospect when he was drafted. I guess I assumed he could hit a bit. Looked over and so far he hasn't

Wasn't drafted... but yes he had a ton of hype but thus far it hasn't translated... of course he only signed as a 16 or 17 year old... always tough to project kids like that who are really raw.

Salcedo has been pretty good so far in his transition to the OF. He's already thrown out 2 runners and his bat has been better he had a HR and 2B today. Maybe not having to concentrate as much on defense will do him a world of good.
