Braves not serious on my Bday GDT

Maybe not routine, but that ball was in the air forever. Acuna clearly misjudged the ball, and didn‘t pick up his pace until it was too late. It’s a play a good RF needs to make

But Acuna isn't a good defensive RF and nobody is trying to say that he is.

msstate was trying to act like anybody (but acuna) would make that play

Ok, so who is say JF wouldn't have rated better with the more accurate stats?
Fair question.. but looking at some of his stats that did register age 31 season.. he was slow with poor range and a very good arm. even taking into natural sprint speed decline due to age, he was never going to approach Acuna's 30 + spring speed. That leaves him with jumps and roues and I think we all remember some bad routes he would take..

I doubt he would rate horrible, but I don't think he would be some gem in any outfield position. Back in his day, dWar was basically did you make any errors sort of stat.. so not fair to really compare the two gens.

Only you apparently. Francour has a lot of similarties to Acuna defensively. Great arm. Meh jumps and questionable routes. The main difference is that Acuna is the better athelete and has the speed to make up for some of the poor outfield play.

there is a breakdown of the play.. Acuna had a long way to go 110 feet. but he had a lot of time to get there. It looks like the route was good but either he didn't sprint out of the gate or got a bad read/jump. Also looks like Ozzie could have had a play on that ball as well, but going back and out on the ball is def harder than Acuna coming in. Still just looks like a extremely lucky placed ball that was slightly missed played.

2016, JF was 0.0 dWAR in 125 games. This was his last season.

I doubt we are looking for a starter anymore (even though we should be). But Giolito would be my choice.

Keep in mind this is the guy who said the Braves had 2 contracts done in the offseason just for neither of them to pan out (Verlander and Tanner Scott were rumored).

Ross was a failure in Chicago though I'm not sure if it was because of his managing or his front office. He's yet another guy who played for Bobby :cautious:
Those Chicago teams were very mediocre talent-wise outside of 2020 and 2023. And even then, it isn't like they were loaded with talent. They were .500ish teams talent wise and Ross finished close to .500 for his career there.

He has plays he excels at, like the leaping grab at the wall, where he can make full use of his athletic ability. But many times, he is required to out-sprint his own poor jumps. On the „double“, he wasn‘t able to.

You don't have even have to have played RF in mlb to know the jump was bad.
I personally don’t give a damn if it was a bad jump or not. Acuña plays a good enough right field maybe not great, but for that ass nugget Frenchy to say anything about it, just makes me say he made a hell of a play on the ball. Lmao
