Braves On The All Star Team

Granted, Riley's added 80 points to his OPS this month alone, likely after many of these decisions/votes were being made (however they do it now). I'm sure he'll get in as a replacement.

Cooper replaced Harper on the NL all star roster which is retarded. Is the requirement to be a DH that you can’t place defense?

So fun for fans to see the 30 year old Marlins 1B with 7 homeruns in the league’s preeminent marketing event!

I'm confused why he is the selection. Isn't Alcantara going to be one of the first starting pitchers?

Yeah, the Fish have a representative. No idea how anyone can justify Cooper over Riley. Riley's fWAR is almost twice Cooper's.

Because they picked a DH to replace Harper who was listed as a DH. And Cooper was the next in line in the players ballot among DH's. Same thing happened with JD Martinez replacing Alvarez. So it looks like for Riley to get on the team either Machado or Nolan will have to opt out? I don't remember them strictly replacing players by position in previous years and going by the players vote. But I haven't paid too much attention to it either.

Surely then they are going to find the best 6th/7th inning guys because it wouldn't make sense to have too many closers on this sqaud.......

Yeah, I don't think they've ever gone strictly by position. Is that something from the new CBA?

The idea that you have to replace a DH with a DH is absolutely silly as a lot of teams don't have a strict DH these days.

I mean, the NL's starting DH is basically a time-share catcher who's slotted at DH occasionally ...

So yea, seems pretty silly.

I get that for any position that isn’t DH. Just select the best player and be done with it. The NBA would never do something this stupid.

If we're basing this off guys who have DH'd a good bit this year, they probably should have selected Josh Bell as the replacement.
