Braves on TV

Just got around to downloading the stand-alone Bally app on Firesticks today. Actually looks like I can get the live feed 24 hours a day in my market - should know for sure when Braves Live comes on shortly.

Fingers crossed, a return to YTTV may be in the works as soon as tomorrow!!!

Ballys streaming service will be $19.99 a month and will launch next month

So will the ballys app stream all the Braves games like direct tv stream does now?
That would be great - I’d love to cancel direct tv - I signed up for it - and it’s damn expensive

The app worked just fine with no hitches for me last night. This is obviously of little help until we can get the games on the standalone app WITHOUT the DirecTV Stream subscription, but so far so good - for some reason I was under the impression that there were substantial problems with the app.

$20 bucks a month is steep IMO, but it is what it is - that's still less than $1 a game. That plus the YTTV subscription is still a far better option than DirecTV or DirecTV Stream.

Does Bally Sports really expect this to go well? Almost every live stream app is running on very slim profit margins. And Bally offers pretty terrible programming overall.

Do they really expect streamers who cut the cord to save cash, to pay 20 bucks a month for their ****ty service? And do they really expect to make more than they would if they just caved and agreed to similar terms as they had before?

Did they not see how terribly this went for CNN?

No
I’ve seen a lot of predictions of Bally sports going belly up. They don’t have enough inventory of teams in big markets to make it economical viable.

This is interesting- I know they have Baltimore and DC because I spend a lot of time there and have to direct tv stream the Braves from there ….but it sounds like they may be lacking elsewhere ? How did fox sports do well then ? Or did they ? I guess maybe that’s why it sold ?And if they bellied up, I wonder if our product- Braves live and skip and Frenchy and etc would stay the same ….

It’s just everything with Bally is lower quality than it was with the Fox RSNs. If Bally goes belly up like was mentioned in this thread, then who knows what happens next. Nothing has impressed me with Bally. I wish there was a way the Braves could get out of their deal early. Of course, if they did that, what would be next? A new network the Braves would start like the Yankees did with YES and the Cubs with Marquee?

I'm not so sure Fox Sports "did well" - they were just much more reasonable when dealing with providers since they were part of the Disney family. When Disney was forced to sell all the RSNs off, Bally/Sinclair offered more for the rights than anyone else did.

As for Chip/Frenchy/the rest of the Braves Live cast, I'm not so sure how much say the RSNs and providers have in that. I know the in-game announcers have always been employed by the TEAM just like the radio guys - there were plenty of instances in the past where those types did something that made the team look bad and were fired without the TV side being consulted. I would imagine the Braves Live crew is different since many of them are "interchandeable" - I don't watch the other sports, but thought I remembered Jerome, Kelly, and Treavor Scales being hosts of Hawks Live?

I would imagine this would depend completely on how things stand at that point. If Bally/Sinclair does go belly-up and disappears, one would assume that relieves each team they control of all agreements previously negotiated with Fox since that was what Bally/Sinclair bought. You would think there would be enough interest from the franchises in the Bally Sports South/Southeast region to come to some kind of agreement to keep a similar partnership to become a network like Yes and Marquee, but with media companies becoming such behemoths and controlled by the bigger companies is there anybody out there that would be able to pay the Braves/Hawks/United/North Carolina/Tennessee teams enough to make it worth them not negotiating separate deals - especially when those teams need that money to be one of their biggest revenue streams? Disney can't buy those rights back as long as they continue to control ESPN IIRC, and they're not making that trade.
