Braves re-sign Morton

I think it's clear AA does not want to extend pitchers in their late 20s which is actually pretty smart. Wouldn't hold my breath man

We don’t know this for sure but that position has more support than the opposite.

Fried will be worth it though. Guys an absolute horse.

We need to get rid of Ozuna, Rosario, and Odorizzi this off-season, even if we have to include some prospect capital.

If we bring Dansby back, we could always fill LF and DH with with players coming up like Grissom/Malloy or guys you can buy low on like Grossman

Odorizzi is almost guaranteed to be gone by himself. He is due to make $13m next season, but has a $6m buy out. So all he needs to do is find a deal better than 1 year / $7m....pretty sure he will.

Don't really care about the cost so long as it doesn't impact money spent on a SS and filling in the rest of the spots, which I assume it doesn't. Not my money.

like others, dont love it or hate it. Im okay bringing him back but worry next year could be rough for him. Never bought the DeGrom talk, but this better not leave AA scraping to improve the offense/keep Dansby mostly.

Since I brought up getting rid of Ozuna. If we have to take back a contract I think we should call Miami about a Soler trade.

Morton for $8M? Maybe. Morton for $20M? Why must AA always spend big on one "seasoned veteran", ala Keuchel, Hamels, Morton Morton Morton? Enough already

this signing is a gamble for sure, but I think he will be much better next year. As long as he doesn't break a leg in the WS like last year that is.

Yeah, i would have declined it and seen if he would have taken a paycut around 10-12 mil. Just hope it doesnt stop AA from not having enough payroll to add elsewhere on the roster.

You think AA gave Morton this deal without determining if he'd take less? Is AA suddenly the worst contract negotiator on the planet?

20M though, couldnt drop it to like 12-15, but whatever. Morton is fine for the 4-5 spot.

You don't think AA offered Charlie less at first?

We aren't competing with other teams...we're going up against retirement, for a guy that presumably has enough money so that his kids will have the option of never having to work.

Agree 100%.

Morton isn't putting in the work for 10 million. Rich people problems literally, but that's the price for Morton.

I think we could have gotten similar results for less. But we do have a YOUNG staff. So I get the appeal of having a vet. Especially a vet who has had long term success through taking care of himself and listening to analytics.

I think in AA's ideal world we'd be on a 6 man rotation w/ an occasional 7th man. He loves depth and rested starters.
