Braves Sign Adeiny Hechavarría; Camargo and Duvall Optioned; Bryse Wilson Recalled

Such a weird series of events. Really don't understand the Duvall demotion. He's a lefty masher with a lefty dominant team coming to town. It just seems like a really odd move. I guess it was another situation where we needed another pitcher and no one else had an option that we were ok with being without.

Don't worry. He will be back up tomorrow.

They really don't look ready.

Not sure if you quite understand the power jolt that AAA callups can provide. They come prepared for that first three weeks of mlb and get locked in until the book gets out on em.

If the braves are thinking about bringing up pache or waters, I'd do it Tuesday. 11 of 14 games vs marlins, rockies, jays, and white Sox starting Tuesday

But those are more like AAA teams...isnt the idea to have them skip a level

The idea is to beat those teams, and right now we're pretty evenly matched when you look at the bottom of our lineup. We need more talent. Of course, the talent may not be ready, and we may just burn service time for no reason

Choices for the non-Acuna outfield spots are now Culberson, Duvall, Joyce, Ortega, LaMarre, Waters, Camargo and Pache. I'd be interested to see someone take a stab at analyzing what combination might work best.

key words: analyzing, analysis

I was looking at FA lists (sad, I know at this point of season), but I saw denard span. He was still a decent hitter last season... let's not talk about defense. I wonder how realistic it would be to get him ready on such a short time frame. Not likely, I know, but I've got 2 fingers on the panic button

doesn't have to be anything fancy...for example

Drew Waters: very unlikely he can sustain the .400 plus BABIP he has put up in AA and AAA. Good chance he will be a high BABIP hitter in the majors which means .330-.340. It is unlikely he would improve on his walk and strikeout rates if promoted to the majors this year. So we are talking about a 5% BB rate and a +30% K rate. Unlike Riley, Waters has not shown much power in the minors this year. It would be unrealistic to project a power surge if he was promoted to the majors this year.

From Pache I would expect similar hitting as Waters with a bit less BABIP and fewer Ks. And more defense.

Bottom line: there is no reasonable projection that would favor Pache and Waters over the other alternatives. They might get hot and outperform projections. But so might the alternatives.

Our best alternative the next few weeks is to get by with some combination of Joyce, Culberson, Duvall and Ortega.

LaMarre and Camargo could come into play but I would leave them in AAA for now.

So this isn’t a numbers break down as much as it is just evaluating our options. Camargo has been given the whole year and has been below replacement level. He’s no longer a realistic option at this time. Joyce and Culberson/Duvall could fill one non CF outfield spot and probably be productive with the bat if deployed correctly. The downside of course is that this weakens the bench. I don’t know enough about Ortega and LaMarre to make an informed opinion either way.

As for Pache and Waters. They are our highest upside options and would also allow us to keep Acuna out of CF. Worst case scenario we know Pache’s glove will be ready even if his bat needs to catch up.

I’d go for giving the kids a chance and re-evaluate when and if we get Markakis and Ender back. I’d like to know if at least one of them can play a productive CF for us this year though in the event we don’t get Ender back.
