Braves Sign Adeiny Hechavarría; Camargo and Duvall Optioned; Bryse Wilson Recalled

doesn't have to be anything fancy...for example

Drew Waters: very unlikely he can sustain the .400 plus BABIP he has put up in AA and AAA. Good chance he will be a high BABIP hitter in the majors which means .330-.340. It is unlikely he would improve on his walk and strikeout rates if promoted to the majors this year. So we are talking about a 5% BB rate and a +30% K rate. Unlike Riley, Waters has not shown much power in the minors this year. It would be unrealistic to project a power surge if he was promoted to the majors this year.

Compare those to what we can expect from Ortega, LaMarre, Duvall, etc. I assume that the minimum expectation for Pache and Waters would be similar. If the expected production is nearly the same, it would make sense to go with the player with the most upside. Factor in defense with Pache, and the fact that the roster as constructed doesn’t have a true CF, and the decision tilts even more in favor of going young.Service time shouldn’t be a consideration for a team with a legitimate chance at a decent playoff run.

With the others I would apply a 10-15% haircut to their AAA numbers. The results are far from favoring Pache and Waters, even when accounting for defense.

I’d go for giving the kids a chance and re-evaluate when and if we get Markakis and Ender back. I’d like to know if at least one of them can play a productive CF for us this year though in the event we don’t get Ender back.
You're gonna make this determination on what kind of sample size?

The maximum MLB sample size we can. It’s not a long term judgement as none of this is ideal but worst case we can always change course at the end of the season if needed.

I would rather see Hamilton signed than anyone else brought up from the minors. I've never liked the idea of Acuna being the only CF option on the roster. I wouldn't expect much from Hamilton, but he can play CF and pinch run and we certainly don't need to start Pache's clock and stunt his development.

There's always Lane Adams... ;-)

Hamilton is...not good. Having said that, I agree with the entirety of your post: it’d be nice to have a viable CF backup for Young Yunior, and it’d be nice to not throw Pache to the MLB fire (and fire up his clock). And there might be some gravy in the form of pinch-running.

We had a long stretch of very good baseball without a "viable" second center fielder earlier this season. Only one is needed. Hamilton would take up a bench spot and contribute little to nothing.

I would bring up Alex Jackson for the last bench spot so we can use McCann more to pinch hit when he isnt catching.

An OF who can hit would be preferable. I just don’t see any.

Oof. A bit better than expected, but out most of the rest of the season

Really hoping Swanson is back by the end of this month, and that Markakis and Inciarte can make the postseason roster (preferably with at least a week in September to round back into form).

That's going to be key...whether they can get in 5 or 6 games at the end of the season.
