I think Sale is certainly possible; I just think it would be a bad move.
It would smell of impatience. The front office has done a great job building up the farm. Now we just have to wait for it to pay dividends. Giving up a huge amount for Sale would be a sign that the front office is abandoning the rebuild plan because they're tired of waiting.
Disagree. One man's impatience is another man's aggressiveness.
If you've got 20 for real prospects and you peel off four for an ace, you're using the farm one of the two ways it is meant to be used.

I recommend this:
Come up with your list of 4 prospects you think would get the Braves Sale. Then go to the major fan sites like MLBTR and FG, and post your suggestion in one of their chats. See what those guys have to say.
I'll bet you $100 nobody with any real knowledge on the topic (the sites where MLB teams are actively recruiting employees from) will agree that your package gets Sale in a Braves uniform, and that the Braves would actually part with said package.
The White Sox don't want 4 "for real" prospects for Sale. They will want 2-3 "elite" guys from the Dansby, Albies, Newcomb, Inciarte, tier of talent, and then 1-2 more guys from the Maitan, Acuna, Allard tier of lower level talent. As soon as the Braves give up a handful of those players, there is no longer any point of having an Ace on a terrible team.

This signing was only officially announced Thursday (17th). As I suspected, he required a full-blown physical. Rumor is that he tested positive for gravy.
I feel like Colon's physical has to be at a "Does he have an arm?" or "Is he alive?" level
If I had to guess, I would say the meetings went something like this:
Braves talked with teams like the ChiSox and Rays to get an idea if they overvalued some of the Braves prospects.
When it was quickly realized that those types of pitchers required prospects the Braves considered off limits, they immediately pivoted to the FA options they targeted.
Dickey has said he is considering retirement, and geography would play a large role in his decision. The Braves were pretty much the best fit in that regard.
Colon got a HUGE raise from what the Mets gave him last year. The Braves probably asked what it would take for him to sign right now, his agent threw out a number, and the Braves agreed.
I think the Braves are showing the optimal blueprint for building a roster during that awkward transition season between rebuilding and true contention. Mismanaging that transitional season has scuttled many rebuilds, and I think the Braves are handling it nearly perfectly.
dear god.
I'm so tired of enscheff sticking his head in the sand and being the ring leader apologist for the FO
Haven't you been talking about lately how signing Colon was one of the worst moves the FO could have made? Apparently quite a different story when it happened. The cracks are showing in your perfection.
