Braves sign Jim Johnson.... again

If I were he, I'd ask for a no-trade clause. Because he's going to be marketed again this year.

Not much of a surprise IMO. Not something I'd expect to work as well as it did last season, but not much of a shocker.

Probably a lot like Norris - they were looking for a couple veterans and the two of them agreed to sign for less than The Johns expected, so they grabbed them.

I like Johnson, am wondering what he signed for though. Was only paid $1.6MM last year.

Jim Johnson will receive $2.5M with his one-year deal. #Braves

Egh. Oh well.

Actually shaping up a lot like last winter if you think about it. Grab a few guys early who'll fill out your most pressing needs cheaply, leaving you the flexibility to make bigger moves if the opportunity presents itself and makes sense. Don't be standing around with a whole group of teams looking for a veteran starter or pen piece in late January when those guys get quite a bit more money than they're likely worth because there are few available options. Then you've got better trade pieces because of their contracts.

Much easier to move guys like Norris, Johnson, and even Grilli if they're pitching well, and you can even offer to eat their salaries to buy a better prospect if you need to.

I'm glad we're not investing much $ or years in RPs . . . yet. I'm nervous about the price on a potential setup man that Bowman mentioned tonight. I'm hoping "setup man" means another guy similar to Johnson, and not one of these cats looking for a 3 year deal. Based on the # of guys they're pursuing, it seems likely that they take it slow with Grilli and Simmons, which is fine by me.

With this move, the 40-man roster is currently full. Minor and Ciriaco are likely gone in the next 48 hours. With the likely addition of two RPs, a 3B, and hopefully one or two other position players . . . we're gonna have to make a trade or cut loose some of the weaker links like McKirahan, Terd, etc.

so can we now say we got Zach Bird, Pa Rod, 5th competitive round pick, Jim Johnson and a player to be name later that turned out to be Hector.. plus cash..

for Woods/Peraza/Avlian/Bronson..

does that make the trade better?!?
