Braves sign Mac Attack, 1 yr 2 million deal

McCann a good counsel of elders guy.

The people who just want Atlanta to re-sign old Braves get a nice present as well.

It's a move that makes a lot of sense at that price point.

Mac is definitely on the decline and probably wont be a huge force on offense for this team, however, he's well worth the money in this deal. His ability to handle pitching staffs alone is probably worth that. I've never heard of a pitcher who didn't like working with McCann. He'll also fill a huge hole in the clubhouse that Markakis is leaving.

Between McCann and Flowers, we can probably cobble together a platoon that wont kill us offensively out there.

Maybe AA is convinced that McCann's struggles last year were mostly injury related. If McCann can put up a ~.750 OPS like he did from '15-'17, then this deal is fine.

I’m gonna say Mac is mainly a bench option at that price but it can’t hurt anything. He’s an excellent clubhouse guy too.

Go sign Kimbrell and trade for Heyward and let's get the band back together.

In this case, you would have to trade Inciarte and go get JUpton as well...

An outfield/lineup of Acuna/Heyward/Upton would be ridiculous......both in terms of defense of Heyward and Acuna, plus the strikeouts of Upton and Heyward

We looked at this last week. If you throw out last season of McCann, McCann and Suzuki are basically the same level of performer. IF you think McCann returns to his late form, then this is a great deal because he's typically been seen as the better framer and defender. I do think there is a relatively high chance that he's not that player any more though.

But at 2m, the Braves can cut bait if that is the case and look for upgrade.

......

Despite my talk, I'm sort of in the conservative camp with nscapi. I like this better than giving up mega-prospects for Realmuto or big money and years and draft pick for Grandal.

I saw Ramos as the likely target and didn't feel great about that money and years either. I think I'm happier with Donaldson.

I think the late Bernie Mac could outhit Brian Mac right about now. They're paying peanuts, but McCann wasn't even in my top ten choices to share time with Flowers.

At the press conf Mac said he’s healthy now (of course). AA said that they did a lot of home work on him and feel he can improve at the plate. AA also said that he bought in fully to all of the game planning and prep work that they do, and that some other guys they talked to they felt like wouldn’t put in the effort. Great little nugget into their thinking

McCann learned how to prepare for games from Chipper who was as hard a worker in prepping for games as anyone in the sport. It doesn't surprise me that McCann would be all over the Braves game planning work.

When i saw the Braves were going with a platoon at C again, i kinda figured they'd have to do something big to add a bat in another spot. This is a fine deal and doesnt hurt the farm (yet) and gives Braves plenty of payroll flex heading into next winter.

Good BMac is back, once a Brave, always a Brave.

Interesting to me aa brings back Donaldson who he knew well but no on grandal.

Wonder if the draft pick is a big deal and they want one more year to go big in the draft.

To me this is punting catcher on offense. If that’s the case we can’t have dansby and inciarte.
