Braves Spring Training news and roster competition

Tough to find a game that won't be worth going to in Gwinnett for the month of April with a rotation of Blair/Jenkins/Banuelos/Folty/Gant.

And it's going to be like that at just about every level. Obviously no one's going to be able to go to Gwinnett, Mississippi, and Carolina...just saying. That projected Mississippi rotation is probably even more compelling than the one in Gwinnett, and then Rome's is just going to be stacked. You also could see Touki and Fried in Carolina.

Glad I wasn't he only one thinking this. Probably a better option than Chacin at league minimum. And would also allow us to stash Chacin for depth at AAA since Folty and Banuelos aren't ready.

I'd consider him to replace Perez in the rotation but keep Chacin, so either way I'd sign him.

Torres count seems to have gone from 2 to 0 in less than 24 hours.

Anyone know when the team usually makes minor league rosters public? Interested to see where some guys will start the year.

Wish we would inquire about Jurickson Profar... he's not likely to play with the Rangers at this point and he may be pretty cheap. I think he'd be a low risk high reward type of guy if he can stay healthy. IMO, he's the kind of guy we should be targeting.

This I completely agree with. If anything, there's no reason not to do so.

That being said, I bet we have and I'm sure he's overpriced.

The Rangers have said they're not selling low on him since the Arizona Fall League season started. He won't be "cheap". Still would be interesting to hear what "not selling low" represents though.

I guess since he's still under control for a while, why not for them... but he obviously has no place to play anytime soon. Let the kid play somewhere.

A little surprised to se that Yean Carlos Gil was released yesterday. Listed on the team's Transaction page yesterday when Folty's move was announced.

There's a roster on the Gwinnett Braves website that includes some interesting names. There are 20 pitchers alone on this roster, so it obviously isn't final, but I wonder why this is up at all: http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?sid=t431

They carry every name currently on that roster including those placed there over the winter. Only one that puzzles me is Schrader, who doesn't have to be there because he's just entering his fourth season (and he will probably start the year in Mississippi).

A bit short on outfielders. I wonder if (and expect) Dian Tascano will be starting for them. It will be interesting to see if he performs at a level high enough to project him as more than minor league depth.

Tuiasosopo is not listed but will be in Gwinnett. Not sure if Stubbs will accept a minor league assignment, but we do need another outfielder in AAA.

Brignac will probably see some time in the OF as well. Outside of Castro seeing every inning at SS (at least at the outset), there will likely be a lot of guys moving around the diamond.

I'm guessing the infield will be Moore at first, Brignac at second, Castro at short and D'Arnaud at third. Sean Kazmar is returning for his fourth season as utility infielder in Gwinnett.

Kinda wonder where Stubbs would play even if he'd go to Gwinnett with Mallex playing everyday in CF. If you've got Tuiasosopo in RF and Toscano in LF, where would his ABs come from?
