Braves to acquire Brandon Phillips

So by 'every player in the league' then where do you want to make that cut off. Virtually every player that had an at bat in 2016? That's silly. And yes Trout and his awesome WRC+ should count just as Erik Aybar's numbers should count.

No there should be a cutoff and i excluded puthers in my figure before. Bottom line is Phillips is better than half of the 255 hitters that start on an individual day.

I admire for continuing fighting the good fight... but at some point it's just pointless

Then what should be the cutoff? You can go as low as players with 100 plate appearances in 2016. Phillips still ranks 246 out of 438 hitters. He was not better than half of the players on an individual day. You are embarrassing yourself.

I'm sorry that I choose to question 'truths'. My point isn't wrong.

well, it is wrong. but not by much. BP was 8% below the avg grade for wRC+ if you wanted to take all players who had a plate appearance and their performance and normalize to a scale of 100 being avg (which is what wRC+ does in it's formula) he was a bit below an avg major league hitter. (byt the mathematical definition of average not some arbitrary "he's an average player" measurement) 8% is slightly below, as a 108 would be 8% slightly above. Both players would probably be thrown into the overall mix of "avg bat" but last year, he was not only slightly worse than an avg player at hitting, but also at fielding and running the bases (thus his 0.9 fWAR) Going into his age 36 season it is unlikely this will improve, but it could maintain and he might end up with a 1ish type to 1.5 WAR season, which isn't awful.

I am quite interested to find out myself. The dimensions are shallower in the power alleys, but they have the wall that gets larger from L to R. There appears to be a lot of foul ground as well. I reckon it's going to come down to how the wind plays and how the heat impacts ball flight. i would prefer it to be fairly neutral rather than too skewed either way

Doubt it really matters. Both aren't good hitters.

Yet somehow Phillips puts up better numbers in the counting stats and the production stats... I like advanced stats, but that accounts for something. And he's not a splits guy. That's the other thing you don't want to address.

With SRod being out significant time, this is a great trade when we gave up garbage and we are paying 1 million... lot better than any Utley crap

Playing time and not walking has to do with those 'counting' stats. Francoeur once put up 29 homers and 103 rbi. Looking back I doubt very many people are going to say he was good offensively that year.

Multiple baseball sources: Reds to receive 27-year-old LHP Andrew McKirahan and 29-year-old RHP Carlos Portuondo.

Haven't seen this posted yet. And looks like 1.5 million. With no trade. And DFA bonus.

Didn't realize Jace was a world class walker

Meanwhile Utley receives $2MM plus incentives.

This is what makes it a decent trade for me. I'd rather have Phillips' potential upside for $1 million and two non-prospects than Utley's potential upside for $2 million.

Would personally rather have played Jace because it wouldn't be nearly as big a deal when the brass decides it's time to plug Albies in, but you have to assume they've had that discussion with BP already and made him aware that he's simply a placeholder.
