Braves to extend netting at Suntrust Park

I think foul pole to foul pole is a bit overkill, but it definitely needed to be extended to some degree. Its a good move for the most part and one that I think will be standardized across the MLB pretty soon.

The protection is needed, especially with guys hitting the ball harder than ever before...I wish they could develop something like in hockey that would put a see through barrier foul pole to foul pole without obstructing the view....I say behind home plate yesterday and it was difficult at times to see

I think I would have preferred if they would have extended it to the end of where the tarp usually is or, if they want to be extra safe, to where the stadium bends in towards the foul lines. Going all the way to the foul pole is excessive. By the time the ball gets to home run distances it has slowed substantially and isn't travelling at potentially lethal speeds.

Once we signed Billy Hamilton, leaving the foul lines unprotected would have been criminally negligent.

I'm against the netting personally. I think it's worth having a 2 year old's face smashed in so rich people can have a slightly better view at a baseball game.

I'm guessing it will be up permanently, which really sucks for the player/fan interaction before games (and even sometimes during games). It would make more sense, imo, to make it retractable.

We like to sit front row behind the home dugout in Rome ($10, best value in baseball.) Whenever we buy tickets I make sure to grab them where they're still protected by the screen. I can't imagine having your kid drilled in the face with a line drive. I knew a kid who was pitching and took a comebacker to the face. He had at least a dozen surgeries to repair the damage.

So those of us with enough cash to buy tix in the front row have our view obstructed AND our chance to interact with players destroyed? When will the persecution of the non-pleb end??

If people would get off their phones and pay attention it wouldn’t be a problem and it’s probably best not to sit down there with small children.

It’s not that hard to get your hands up quickly. There is no way someone should get drilled in the face.

First I’ve heard of any netting. Seems like some snowflake fans complained in their safe space to me.

But fwiw, from my luxury box I’ve never noticed a net.

Having/not having cash is irrelevant to fan interaction before the game. Kids lineup to speak to their favorite players and get their autographs or maybe even a picture. This would effectively end this part of the sport.

Again, a retractable netting that's pulled down before and after games seems like good compromise.

I am sure that is being considered. Having netting is about ruining anyone’s experience but to help protect the fans. Baseball stadium is full of distractions, so saying put up your phones is dumb. This is a good idea that won’t take away from fan experience other than missing out on a few foul balls.

But back to your point. I would be surprised if they don’t have retractable nets
