Braves trade CJ for Swisher, Bourn, $$$

Doing the math on the salary swap, it looks like our salary expense for 2015 increases about $7.25m with this deal. So the worst case scenario for 2016 budgeting purposes would be that only $7.75m of the supposed $15m sent by Cleveland will be left to allocate for 2016. If we keep all these OFs (unlikely), that still leaves us with as much as $40m to add a veteran SP, a setup RP, and a Catcher.

If the money coming back is 13.5m then combine that with CJ and Maybin's salary and you have 29M which is what we're taking on in Swisher and Bourn. So we just moved some money around and traded CJ/Maybin for Swisher/Bourn and whoever we get for Maybin. We will still have cash to be players this offseason.

CJ is 4-4 today. Sorry sack of crap. I bet he's a beast all year and sucked with us because he wanted to be traded. Lol. But for real.

I hope he plays well. A player with fire is not a good match with the Braves, unfortunately.

Both Bourn and Eury Perez have sizable platoon splits and would complement each other well. I suspect a Bourn / Perez platoon would pretty easily match Maybin's overall value in CF. I definitely think Maybin's days are numbered. I just wish he would have been traded a couple months ago when his value seemed a bit higher.

Yea, that is true too. The one thing right now I don't like about the log-jam in the outfield is that it means for now Perez is back on the bench. Perez has actually did better than I expected overall and only recently has he started getting the green light to steal more. His numbers are nothing special but they'll look a lot better if he is stealing bases at the rate we saw in AAA (and I expect the more he plays the more we'll see that in the future). But if nothing else I like him as a solid 4th outfielder and platoon candidate going forward for all three outfield spots. Perez has also impressed me with his arm for someone his size. I like him best in RF because his arm worked best there in AAA and he seems more comfortable there too. But Markakis plays RF here so that leaves Perez to CF or LF for now.

That said, I think we'll see Maybin traded as soon as the Braves get an offer they like. He'll probably need to stay hot for that to happen soon. I think Maybin probably lost a bit of value with his slump but a good two weeks could bring it back up a bit. Hopefully we didn't wait too long to sell as high as possible. We sold low on both Wood and Peraza so it wouldn't surprise me if same happens again. We seem to very rarely sell high on anyone, at best it is somewhere in the middle.

I mean...Bourn and Swisher both had big hits for us last night. Sometimes a change of scenery like that can do a guy a world of good. I hold no ill will toward CJ. Hope he goes on to have have a nice career.
