Braves trade for Chris Sale - Grissom going to Red Sox (Extension through 26 at 18M)

I doubt we spend hardly any money to bring in anyone of note. Whatever 4th OFer we might bring in will be a minor league deal type of guy to compete with Wall and provide organizational depth. Probably someone like AJ Pollock

Agreed.

Didn’t we already sign a veteran OF to a ml contract. I would think he gets a shot, along with Wall. I am expecting the bench to look more like that than a notable signing.

Keep the powder dry in case they need it. See who emerges unexpectedly in the minors.

I didn't understand the math in the MLB rumors column. It said that th3 Braves had a 27.5m CBT number offset by the 1 from the Sox, and that now that's reduced to 2m. So to me that suggests they shaved about 8m from the cap figure. But it was clear as mud.

I'll bet Pillar would work for $2.5M if you gave him 2 years.

Would work if Pillar could actually play CF anymore. My guess is Wall is the back-up CF/Billy Hamilton redux guy, but he's a LHH. Curious to see who the RH guy to spell Kelenic will be. Could be Pillar, but I would hope for something better. Bench is terrible right now and that's not a big deal as long as everyone stays healthy, but heaven help us if someone significant is lost of the season.

Just like Harris needed to be given a chance to prove he could handle LHP, if Kelenic was acquired as a shot at another 4 win player he must be given the chance to hit LHP. That lessens the need for a quality RHH 4th OF a bit, but I’d still like to see an upgrade over the Wall/Garcia dynamic duo of suck.

Somebody just call Duvall already…. If this is really our best team and best shot in forever and etc, just call the man.

Unless of course, this puts us over the threshold and the penalty is 50m so Duvall ends up costing more than a year of Judge or something…

The biggest penalty for going over 3rd tier is draft pick dropping 10 spots.

Should be plenty of options to trade for a RH LF bat mid season if needed.

I think Duvall probably wants a starting spot or at least somewhere he can get consistent AB's. The biggest penalty is 10 spots lower in the draft order, which is a big deal. I think we're like 7M below it right now.

Man if they go over that 3rd tier it better be for more than 1-2 million. This crap Mets player signing would really sting if we are just over that threshold. Either go big over it for a good player or stay under it and let’s go to battle with what we have.

I just don’t understand this signing since he isn’t great defensively or offensively.
