Braves trade for Schebler

Old school scrapper. Willing to take a fastball in the ribs and knows a walk is as big as a hit.

Since he has to be added to the 40, who goes? Going to guess Dayton in the hopes that Smith is back soon.

Didn't Hamels going on 45 day IL clear the spot for Schebler to go on 40 man roster?

From MLBTR

This’ll give the Atlanta organization another potential power bat to add to the mix. Schebler will take a spot on the team’s 40-man roster and 60-man player pool. Since he’s out of options, he’ll also have to be added to the active roster.

So who is removed from Active roster for Schebler?

No Hameln created the spot for Chacin. No word yet on who moves to make the new spot.

Dayton would seem to make the most sense - they were supposedly on the fence about whether Dayton or Davidson was going to be the third lefty in the pen, so if someone were to scoop Dayton up you could plug Davidson in (if needed) before Smith makes it back. Would guess Sobotka could be a candidate as well - probably not a big market out there for 27 year olds who still can't throw strikes consistently. Most teams have a handful of guys like him that throw hard but just can't seem to put it together, and with the expanded rosters they'll be able to use prospects in a few more days to fill out those kinds of roles without losing any control over them. With Ynoa and De La Cruz already on the 40-Man Sobotka's relatively expendable IMO.

Newk went out of his way to try to make this an easy decision for AA yesterday...

DFA Dayton, Newk to the pen, Chacin to the rotation, Schebler to the platoon crowd.

With Smith potentially back in a week, you can have Minter hanging out at Gwinnett working on command at that point. Still leaves you with Tomlin and Touki as swing/long guys.
